Re: Pain meds at 3 weeks TAH BSO

hi there,
if you are, I would not worry about it. We all deal with pain differently. I had a TAH, and took no pain meds after day 2, as they made me sick and the vomiting made my incision so painful it was not worth it. As you feel better, you can start to decrease and go longer in between. The more you move about and eat healthy, the faster you will heal.
Are you still in quite a bit of pain?

I know I should be...and am...but run out in two days. My doctor does not prescribe after 2 1/2 weeks and I'm petrified.

Drs always say something like that but the fact is is that you are different mabe most women dont need it after that time but there are a handful who do,so remind him and let him know your still in pain mabe he can prescribe something stronger, its not right that u r petrified over this and worse case scenario u can always go to the hospital and even get yr insurance invovled cuz the will back u

If you know you cannot get more, I'd try calling for a refill, and if not, perhaps your GP can help you. I know that many doctors are getting more restrictive with meds.

Thanks for the support guys. It's the last thing I want to get stressed out about now. The doctor's nurse actually shamed me a bit. She said I shouldn't be taking any pain meds past one week after surgery. I thought that was kind of ludicrous.

Yes. I was still taking narcotics at 3 weeks, even during the day. Not a lot but I was still taking them. I weaned myself off 4 weeks out.

Re: Pain meds at 3 weeks post hysterectomy / BSO

I had my TAH-BSO on 23 May and came off all the pain meds 6 days after surgery. After the first 24 hours of morphine were taken away, they put me on 3 Tylenol Extra Strength every 6 hours and I did not feel any real pain. As I don't like take tablets, I decided when I got home, that since I was not really feeling excruciating pain, that I would come off them. They did send me home with a prescription for Tylenol '3" and Voltaren, but I never filled those.

I feel great not being on the meds.
