Light spotting during my normal cycle time after total hysterectomy

Hi everyone! I am about 10 weeks post op from my hysterectomy. I still have both my ovaries. I am still experiencing PMS/menstrual cycle symptoms around that time of month (breast tenderness, mood swings, cravings, breaking out on my face) around what would be my usual "time of month". Well, I also noticed that I also have light spotting...light pinkish in color around that time as well. It's very light...don't even need to wear a panty liner. My spotting had stopped completely about 4 weeks ago. Is this normal for those who still have their ovaries?
Thank you!

Re: Light spotting during my normal cycle time after hysterecotmy

Your ovaries will continue to go through their regular hormonal cycle whether you have a uterus or not: two weeks of estrogen, one week of progesterone ("PMS week") and then a week without hormones ("period week"). So you're still going to get all the usual symptoms associated with this cycle.

If you kept your cervix, you may also have "mini-periods," as the cervix may include some small amount of endometrial tissue. This will continue to cycle in response to the hormonal cycle of your ovaries, building up during the estrogen weeks, settling down during progesterone week and then shedding during the period week.

Thank you for that info! I had heard that as well from other friends who kept their ovaries. As for the cervix, mine was removed...could the light spotting be from leftover tissue from other parts? Also, I have just recently been cleared to go back to working out and exercising, I shouldn't worry about this spotting?
Have a great day!

Re: Light spotting during my normal cycle time after hysterecotmy

I wouldn't worry about the light spotting in relation to work or exercise.

As to whether or not it's connected to your hormone cycle, I'd suggest waiting a month to see if it comes back. If it does, it's cyclic. If it doesn't, it was the last stage of recovery. Not a big deal either way. :-)
