When did you start driving again?

I had a TAV on 9/3 and one nurse said I could drive at 2 weeks post op which is Friday. The phone nurse today told me I had to wait 4 weeks. How long did you ladies wait before you started driving again? Thanks!

Re: When did you start driving again?

I had my TAH on July 21. Was told not to drive for 2 weeks, but I waited 3. I was just too tired and sore. Even then, I didn't drive very far. Don't push it. If your doc said 4 weeks, wait 4 weeks.

Re: When did you start driving again?

I had a da vinci robotic hysterectomy and bladder lift August 27. My surgeon told me not to drive until after my dr. appt. on Sept. 24. I had no choice and drove 11 days after surgery. I was totally worn out, but I have been driving ever since, but very short trips.

Re: When did you start driving again?

I was told to wait at least 2 weeks. Then at 3 weeks I needed to go in for an appointment, so I tried to drive myself, I was so sore after that it took me several days to recover. I tried again at 6 weeks and I was fine. I had a TAH also.

Re: When did you start driving again?

i was lucky - had da vinci robotic vaginal th and bso - my discharge instructions said no driving while you are on narcotics - had the surgery friday took my last pain pill sunday and drove on thursday. it was necessary due to my disability for work and i am very independent - was tired but that's all, which was good as friday i had an appointment with another doc i had waited 4 months for so drove again.

Re: When did you start driving again?

I was told 2 wks, but a lady that I work with was told that her doc did not believe in that rule. That as long as she could do hard braking and she had no pain .. then she could drive.

I did the 2 wks. Turning to check behind you is difficult at the beginning of recovery. Everyone is different. I hated being immobile, I am an type A personality.

I guess no drag racing during the recovery period.

Re: When did you start driving again?

I just got out today, and my Dr. told me when I was done taking pain meds, I could start driving. So for me, I'm not sure when that will be. I'm off work until Oct. 4th, so I'd better be done with the pain meds, by then.

Re: When did you start driving again?

I had a TAH and was told to wait 6 weeks! Drove today for the first time and it really takes more energy than I would have thought. So be careful. I stopped taking all pain meds 4 days after being home from hospital and they still would not let me drive until 6 weeks.

Re: When did you start driving again?

I had davinci total hys, kept my ovaries, and bladder tak on aug 24, was told I could drive 2-3 wks post op....I drove 11 hrs (5 1/2 hrs each way) and 15 mins after I got home I started bleeding w/ quarter size clots.... Still waiting for dr call back as hospital is a distance away and I'm not real patient inER, not sure if it's just from WAY overdoing it, or if I need to make trip to ER......Anyways if you start driving take it slow
