6 weeks post hysterectomy incision pain

Tomorrow will be 6weeks since my TAH. Overall I feel good. I still have pain. During the day I use OTC pain pills. If I need it at night, I take a Vicodin.

My verticle incision is large, puffy and very tender and painfull. I want to know how long the pain might last. I can handle dull pain sharp pain.

Re: 6 weeks post op incision pain

Hi there I'm 13 weeks post op and have a vertical incision approximately 8-10 inches. My incision wasn't puffy, but has a couple of places where it overlapped and is hard to the touch but I believe this will get softer in time. I suppose for me around the 12 week mark my stomach has been much better to touch. I started rubbing olive oil into the incision once it had completely healed, which has helped, my daughter suggested coconut oil so I'm trying that out now. I had another incision which was at the very top of my thigh in which a growth was removed and it required 3 stitches, its healed very well and has already faded to a slight pink colour. My big vertical incision has a ways to go before it looks like my small incision, I had staples in for about 10 days to a fortnight and then they put steri strips on which were taken off at 6 weeks. Each of us heals differently, if the doctor has said all is well, you could ask about putting some olive oil or something they might recommend to help with the healing process. Maybe one of the other hystersisters might be able to recommend a better type of oil to rub on. I'm seeing if the coconut oil is better then the olive oil. All the very best and hope the pain of the incision goes away soon
