pre-op liquid diet/ BP questions...

So. I got the phone call to schedule my preop stuff. I asked about the bowel prep, and liquid diet.

Its not written in my paper and the nurse I spoke with says its not in her charts to do a BP.

Have any of you NOT had to do one?

Also, liquid diet im ok with, broths, jello etc. But I was wondering about sweet tea. I generally LIVE on tea. Is this still ok to drink? Thanks

Re: pre-op liquid diet/ BP questions...

I wasn't told anything about bowel prep. I thought I was getting off easy! Turned out the joke was on me, because when I arrived at the hospital, one of the first things the nurse did was to give me a Fleet enema.

If they didn't tell you to do bowel prep, don't do it - but don't be surprised if they do it for you.

Re: the liquid diet, I was told that tea and coffee were okay as long as you don't put milk in them. Sweet black tea should be fine. If you can't drink it black, don't drink it at all.

Re: pre-op liquid diet/ BP questions...

I also did not do a bowel prep, and then was instructed to give myself an enema at the hospital.

Follow your doc's orders. If they want you to do a bowel prep or a liquid-only diet, they'll tell you.

Re: pre-op liquid diet/ BP questions...

I have had to do an enema before, so I can handle that. But mag citrate was awful, I could barely choke it down before. So as long as that's the only thing, I can deal with it. lol.

The only thing that goes in my tea is sugar. So Im good there too, but Ill call the doc office before hand and check to be sure. Thank you guys again!

Re: pre-op liquid diet/ BP questions...

I didnt have any bowel prep either. Just stuck to a modified light the day before surgery - liquids (soup) and some rice krispies with some 1% milk for dinner. I was completely fine - and bowels are getting back in order - Day 3 post op.
