Epidural and bloodless surgery - feeling great

I had TAH Jan 27th. My uterus was like a 12 month pregnancy. I requested bloodless surgery and doctor recommended an epidural rather than general anethesia. He said I would heal quicker.

Surgery was great. I felt NO pain for first 24 hours and was totally coherent and not fighting off effects of anethesia. I was administered a sedative during surgery, so I slept through it.

Turns out I had a 2 lb fibroid.

Due to the extra care of surgeon to cauterize blood vessels, I only lost 10 teaspoons of blood and am not anemic.

My recovery has been amazing. I am thrilled!

My husband has been a major help and 2 of my best friends stayed with us for 1 week each to help cook, clean and keep me company.

I wore the Abdominal belt for the first week to hold be tight. Especially on the 2.5 hour drive home from the hospital.

Now I am experiencing the itchy incision - but the Swelly Belly belt is a huge help. I use it everyday.

I wish I would have done this 2 years ago.

Epidural and bloodless surgery - feeling great

I wish I had an epidural over anethesia. I had such a hard time recovering from the surgery and I have a feeling it had to do with the anethesia. I did much better in the past with just the epidural. Recovery was easier as I didn't feel so horrible.
I am glad that everything went well with you. Best of luck with your recovery.
