If you take prescription HRT, what kind do you take?

I take 1 mg oral estradiol, once a day.

I take 2 mg. estradiol once a day.

Vivelle Dot .075 mg
Premarin vaginal cream
Compounded testosterone cream .05%

I think there should be a poll the monthly post hysterectomy cost of HRT and other medications/vitamins that women find themselves taking. I was encouraged by my doctor to have my ovaries removed. Didn't find out until after that my insurance doesn't cover HRT. What I am spending is almost a car payment. Further, if you plug these numbers into a financial calculator ( I am 44 and my doctor says I should "ween" off at about 55) so roughly 11 years, I will spend well over $20,000. I wish I knew that before I made this choice.

Spicy..., I agree, I'm spending $80 a month in copays! That doesn't include the vitamins I started taking. Didn't even think about the cost when I opted for the BSO. At 56 I can't imagine going off HRT based on how I badly feel when my estrogen is low.

hello ladies I know this probably isn't the place to say this, and I don't want to come across as rude or snotty, but if you think about the cost of just living today it does add up. It is part of taking care of yourselves. There are other things you could spend the money on, but will you be around to enjoy it all if you don't take care of yourselves?I am raising 3 kids, and I need to be here as long as possible. I am only 43. I hope you don't stop taking your meds. Let's make the ones that love us suffer with us awhile longer! haha take care

I must say I agree with elvisfan65. I take premarin and was not sure I wanted to until I had a long talk with my DR and he explained why I would need this. I am older than some of you (57) but sure not ready to give up on the joys of life. You have to weigh your options with your Dr and see what is best for your health. Everything is expensive now but we have to make sure we take care of our bodies.

You most certainly did NOT come across as rude or snotty, BUT, I don't think you understood my post. I am just saying that I probably would not have chosen to have my ovaries removed if I had I known it would cost so much. My gyn and also my gyn/onc discussed on many occasions the pros and cons of this decision from a health point of view - but the subject of cost never came up. Also, most of the discussions on the message boards are health consequence oriented. I was very emotional over the cancer diagnosis and things moved very fast - I had to decide quickly! The thought that my insurance would not cover HRT never crossed my mind AND my doctor never suggested that I should find out.
For those of you who may be reading this and were given a choice as to whether to have your ovaries removed or not, did your doctor discuss the cost of monthly HRT with you? Was cost a factor in your decision?
I am all for taking care of myself, but I have a lot of regrets that my rush decision is going to cost so much over my lifetime.

I guess I was not concerned with the cost of HRT just wanted to get it all out since I am 57 and did not want to have to go back because of ovarian cancer. I was already on premphase since going into meno. so it really did not bother me. I did talk to the Dr about the dangers of taking estrogen and he explained the good for me reasons and what would happen to my body without it. Everyone has to make their own mind up. I am sorry you did not have the choice to decide for yourself. You are younger than I am and I can see your point.
