Surgical glue and a stitch - when can I remove the stitch

Ten days ago I had a TAH, and my gynae used surgical glue to close the incision. At one end of the incision she used a single stitch. I have a lot of adhesions under this area of my abdomen from surgery after a car accident in 1988 and this is one reason she used a stitch to close the wound. I am wondering when I can remove the stitch?

Re: Surgical glue and a stitch - when can I remove the stitch

Normally you don't remove any stitches yourself. If the stitch is of the non-dissolvale variety and needs to be removed at some point, this should be done by a trained healthcare person, usually a nurse. I would expect that it the stitch is supposed to come out, this will be taken care of at your post-op appointment.

Re: Surgical glue and a stitch - when can I remove the stitch

I had a single stitch in each site, all 4 of my surgeries. Every time, the Dr said leave them alone and every time they came out on their own, anywhere from a few days to about 4 weeks. Certainly do not pull it yourself, or let someone else, without Dr approval. Esp with scar tissue there that may take longer to heal, take no chances.

Re: Surgical glue and a stitch - when can I remove the stitch

I had surgical glue with a dissolvable stitch that popped through at the end of the incision. At first, I thought it was a ball of glue. My Dr. told me it was a stitch and to leave it alone until it fell off on its own. It finally did at 6 weeks. FYI, my scar is healing beautifully. It didn't impact the results at all. Hope this helps.
