cervical cancer question

Hello ladies... sorry to be a bother again... But this may help me in my decision as to whether or not keep my cervix with my hysterectomy.

Does anyone know if it is hereditary(sp) and how much your risk is increased if someone in your family has had precancerous conditions of the cervix. My aunt just had a TAH cause of cancerous cells found in the cervix, am I correct in thinking that it runs in families?

My mom says keep the cervix cause she ended up having a bladder suspension surgery later afer her hyster and my friend says she has alot of bladder leakage since her hyster a few years ago, she thinks her bladder has shifted too.

So again I am confused as to what to do

Any info is helpful

Thank-you

cervical cancer question

Hi Stacy

Generally speaking, cervical cancer is not hereditary. It's usually caused by the presence of the HPV virus, which isn't passed on genetically.

My mother had cervical cancer - yet I kept my cervix, and it's very happy where it is

The genetic "female" cancers tend to be ovarian and breast - mutations of the BRCA1 or 2 gene can increase your predisposition to these cancers, but cervical cancer isn't generally associated with any genetic predisposition.

Hope this helps!

Warm wishes,

Tess

cervical cancer question

(((((Morningsglory))))))),

I just went to a site dedicated to cervical cancer. It says that it is caused by viruses not by heredity. Now I' m referring to just cervical cancer .

As far as the bladder thing. I couldn't say. My cervix is gone and I have no bladder problems.

Please discuss theses things with your Dr., his view counts more then mine.

Best wishes,

Pamcat
