Hair Perm??
I usually have my hair permed about every 4-5 months. I am due for a perm, and my hair is kind of flat. I can't decide if I should get a perm before or after surgery (7/16). I read some thread in post-op the other day about hair falling out after surgery. Hate to waste the money if this will be the case. Also read that some people have trouble with perms taking post-op due to hormone imbalance. So maybe it's better to go now.
I know this is not a super important thing to be considering, but it's been driving me nuts! Anyone have any suggestions?
(I had an elevated CA125, but doctor is not too concerned about cancer. I worry about losing my hair from cancer treatment, too. I'm not one to worry so much about my appearance, but this hair thing really has me bugged!)

Hair Perm??
I would get the perm before. You will have a heck of a time trying to sit long enough to have one for a number of weeks afterwards. There are also a number of Sisters who report that their hair changes and they have trouble with color and perms for a while after their hysters. I cut quite a bit of length off mine before surgery. Made taking care of my :hair: easier.
Good luck to you!

Hair Perm??
Hello emmlg727.
I was told by a few friends, NOT to have any perm or hair color 2wks pre-op or post-op. I am not sure if they are right. But I didn't want to push my luck either. They agreed that it was something to do with the anesthesia.
I just thought I would share their .
Sending you positive energy and

hair
I lost a lot of hair when I went on Lupron and the Dr. said that it probably had more to do with the hormonal change than the actual medication. I went to the hair dresser who refused to color it because of what may happen, and cut my hair in a very stylish short cut until the hair starts to grow back. I guess my advice would be to either have it done before hand but to be prepared if you lose some post-op or if the perm starts to come out, or to skip the perm and wait till you feel better and have a handle on what your hair is doing, and then go pamper yourself!
Good Luck!!

Hair Perm??
I had my perm about 2 weeks before surgery and it's been fine (almost 6 weeks post-op). My hairdresser told me it may not take right after surgery for about 6-8 weeks, so I opted to have it done before.

Hair Perm??
Thank you everyone for your comments. Seems like a few of us put some thought into this. I'm going to ask my doctor if there is any medical reason why I should wait, and then maybe get my hairdresser's opinion. I'll let you know.

Hair Perm??
I had my gallbladder out years ago and at that time my hair stylist told me to perm it before the surgery because a perm won't take the first month or more after anesthetic.
