Drains?

I have been reading every now and then about people waking up with draining tubes in them? Can someone tell me what these are?

Drains?

Hi Susie!

I didn't have a drainage tube as I had a TVH and therefore, no external incision, but my DD had spinal fusion surgery this summer and she had one.

It was a small tube put in the end of her incision that connected to a small vacuum type pump. It was put there to pull blood and fluid away from the incision.

It was really an amazing device and she said it caused her no discomfort or pain.

I hope this helps you some! Best wishes to you! s

Drains?

Hi, not everybody ends up with a drainage tube. I had a tah/bso and did not need or have any drainage tubes. I think it all depends on what all needs to be done. Often, the tubes seem to be used when there's extra repairs to be done along with the hysterectomy.

If you're worried , please call and ask your dr about it.

Drains?

Hi!
I had a drainage tube after a breast reduction surgery. They sound sickening, but are really no big deal and do not hurt.

Even my friend that took care of me afterwards, who is usually a squemish fellow, had no trouble operating it.

For those who need them, they help speed healing. No worries!

Drains?

When I saw this post I first thought 'are they after a plummer?' (sorry been a bad day)

I had a drain for my TAH, but as I had an ovary sorted out at the same time they wanted to make sure all of its contents were removed from the abdominal cavity.
I had no problems with the drain at all whilst it was in situ, a little discomfort (pulling sensation/pain) when I was moving around, but nothing too bad.

It was uncomfortable to have it removed (IMO) not everyone finds this and I'm sure you will be fine, me I didn't like the sensation of it being removed.
Not everyone has them or needs them, I just don't like them
