3+ wks post-op (TAH) - Large Lump??

Good morning ladies,

I need some advice. I'm 3+ weeks post-op from a TAH and have healed slowly although progressively better each day. I've continued to have pain on the left side of my abdoman since the surgery. I have to admitt...I've vacuumed a couple of times and paid the price dearly for doing so. But this morning I noticed that I have a golfball size lump under the end of the incision on the L side. It hurts to push on that side - but no more than before I noticed the lump.

Is this normal? I've read other posts that say it might be blood pooling or a hernia. Anyone else experiencing this strange new issue? Of course it's Saturday and the Dr.s aren't back in until Monday - so unless you tell me to be afraid "very afraid" then I'm not going to do anything about it.

Your thoughts?! You've all been a great help in my healing process thus far and I figured I'd reach out again!

Thank you and I hope that each and every one of you are doing great and have a wonderful weekend!

well if it is a hematoma the main thing to watch for is infection-if you get a fever over 100.5 I would go to the ER. if no fever and you can live with it and no sudden increase in pain ,then I would say it can wait until mon. morn.I have heard a hard lump is a sign of hematoma, and I even have a small one,but mine is not where I can feel it.

Cassie222,

Thanks for the advice! I'll watch my temperature. It's 99.4 now and oh how that area hurts...but I'll just relax on the couch and watch it.

Have a great day!

Re: 3+ wks post-op (TAH) - Large Lump??

could be infection starting....mine hit out of now where....was doing so well, and then pow! Tender, red, warm to the touch lump, just above my incision, hurt like a bad word!, did not think it was incision related, till the stupid thing opened up a bit and drained. Nasty! I never ran a fever that i know of, we caught it really fast.

So, my advice, chill for the rest of the weekend, take some advil for the pain and swelling, and call your doc monday morning if it is no better.

Of course, if you start to run a fever or feel really bad and it gets unbearable, call your doctor asap! mine hurt as bad as my pre-op pain!

Re: 3+ wks post-op (TAH) - Large Lump??

I had my TAH on June 30th and could write your post word for word except my lump is on the R side. My incision is hot as well but not red at all. The skin folds over there so it could be warm from that but it doesn't seem like that is it. The only other thing different is that I and nausea and vomitted several times yesterday. Of course my Doctor that did the surgery is on vacation in HAWAI and I am waiting until my appoint Monday @ 3 (DH made because I was throwing up and he was worried) I also have a pretty bad headache today also. I am hoping it is just one of those days or few days but like you said, I am going to try not to worry unless someone on here says worry!
