Re: bladder sling causing problems

HELLO, I had a bladder sling and vaginal suspension done on July 28th. I have had really good results until yesterday. I have had some urine leakage when bending over and simple standing as well tonight. I have had NO issues with pain while urinating at all. I went for my six week follow up 2 wks ago and I still had stiches in my vagina.

My husband left a few days after and we have not had intercoarse her and quite frankly I am petrified! a urogyn did my surgery and he was amazing. Sounds like you may have some mesh erosion and you should go see a urogynecologist if you are having such issues.

Anyone at all with the urine leakage????

BTW i had air come out of my urethra two days post op. My doctor told me to watch it very carefully and if it continued to occur after the fourth day post op that that is NOT normal.

thanks ladies...Little liz

Re: bladder sling causing problems

Hi Little Liz,

How did you notice the air from the urethra? I have à weird sound while peeing. Sometimes the sound goes on while no more urine comes out.

I do not have the leaking issues you have. Are you sure it is not à UTI?

Re: bladder sling causing problems

No I am not sure it is not. I had a urine test done yesterday where I work but have not gotten my result yet from my Doctor up in Lebanon.

When I peed I could FEEL the bubbles coming out in my urine. But it stopped after the third day after surgery. What does this sound sound like? U should be seen I would think?

bladder sling causing problems

Well, it sounds like air escaping from à pinched hose or balloon. Right after the sound goes sometimes some more urine comes. Really weird. I have had UTI for three months on and of. Had à new course of antibiotics today. I am actually seeing à new urologist. He is doing some tests on October 6th. I think a cystoscopy, flow analysis and something else I forgot.

Re: bladder sling causing problems

wow, I dont feel as alone again. Looking at most of your alls surgery dates it is within a few days of my one. I got out of the hospital not too long ago for the worst kidney/bladder infection they had ever seen. Finished those antibiotics, now it feels like its coming back. Also, we have had "fun" and there a spot on the side where my bladder is that is still tender. He hasnt complained or come out bleeding or nothing, just uncomfortable to me. I was under the impression that the mesh lasted longer than two months? I am not ready for another surgery or hospitalization. Hope you find your answers too, I am seeing a uro next thursday and will ask lots of questions too!

Re: bladder sling causing problems

I am so sorry any of you have these problems.
If you have any mesh erosion, it can either be under OR go through the surface of the vagina. Erosion means it isn't where it's supposed to be and isn't doing what it's supposed to do. When it goes through, it is often called 'mesh extrusion' or 'graft extrusion' instead. (For more info, see pubmed.gov 'vaginal mesh erosion'--you can also google it).

Mesh erosion felt like 'window screening' to me. It was very unpleasant, to say the least. My first doctor had me try the estrogen cream thing which did NOT work. The only thing I found and have read about that really works is to get the mesh OUT--as soon and as completely as possible. My doctor did the 'piecemeal' approach on me. Meaning I had several surgeries where little pieces of the cursed mesh was removed and then 'in-office' clippings were done (horrible and I do not recommend under any circumstances).

If I had a do-over, I would find the expert UroGYN who had done many mesh removals and only let him/her do the 1 surgery to remove the mesh sling material as much as humanly possible
instead of letting my original doctor who put in the sling try to remove it. There are some doctors in this country who actually do that and even a rare few who can almost be called specialists in it because they've had so many cases. I hated the repeat surgeries to remove the awful, faulty, despicable polypropylene mesh and I don't wish that on anyone.

I do pray that whatever your problem--be it mesh, sling, fistula,etc--you find the absolute best medical help available and that your situation gets resolved in the best manner possible.

bladder sling causing problems

Dylbray,

I am very surprized at that!! I live in NH and my doctor is one of only 2 in the state who do thid surgery. I saw Strohbehns tues about my urine leakage(which has not happened since tues!). He said that returning to work the previous week may have been more physical then I had been in my recovery(true!) And that it may be inflammation as I am only 9 wks out. It could also be that my sling is too loose. BUT..he had had me start on two types of kegels 2x per day, then I go to see him in november if the leakage is still going on. He is VERY confident that it will be resolved one way or the other. He did a bladder scan after I voilded and there was 0 urine left in my bladder. That means it is in correct position with the sling so that there is now NO urine retention after voiding. I think the Urogyn is the ONLY way to go..period!
