cone compression and ultrasound

has been scheduled for me after my digital mammogram was read. Apparently I have a fibrous area in my right breast. I had a film mammogram last year and got the all clear. Hopefully all is well. Two weeks wait won"t be easy.

Re: cone compression and ultrasound

Good luck! Hope it all goes well. I have my regular mammo next week, hoping I don't get called back again for additional testing.

Re: cone compression and ultrasound

Trying not to worry! So far it's not that they see something there it's just that with an area of fibrous tissue they can't get a good enough look and want some further testing. Still, very anxiety provoking. I should know within a week if there is an issue. Thanks for responding.

Re: cone compression and ultrasound

If a cone compression is the same as a spot compression, I had the same thing done about 4 years ago. It was after my 2nd digital mammo (initial baseline at 35 was film)....but right before I started HRT. Had the spot compression and the ultrasound. They had me wait so that I could speak to the radiologist after she had a chance to review the results. She determined that it was overlapping tissue (I have extremely dense breasts, apparently). The ultrasound did pick up a small cyst in each breast. I declined the offer for an on-the-spot biopsy and instead had a repeat ultrasound 6 months later....cysts did not change and the radiologist said that they have likely been there a long time then. The spot compression (inner quadrant) did feel like they had me in a vice from chin to belly button but it was over quickly...some irritation on the skin but it was gone in a few days. Hope you get good news!

Re: cone compression and ultrasound

If there is a lot of dense tissue, you could ask for a breast MRI. That is what I did. It will see right thourgh any density that a mammogram and ultrasound can't.

Re: cone compression and ultrasound

So after the spot compression mammo I had to wait for the radiologist to decide if ultrasound should be done as well. I knew something must be up when I had to continue on to the ultrasound appointment right on the spot. I was called today and told that I have "benign cyst/s" in my breast and that I will be followed up in 1 years time with mammogram and ultrasound. I wondered how they know it is benign without biopsy. The person from the office that called simply said that they know? *shrugz* Free and clear for a year I guess!
