Sarafem

I am almost 3 week post TAH BSO. I discussed HRT with Dr and decided to just wait and see what happens. She said if I needed I could get a shot while still in the hospital, but I did not. So far I have some night sweats that wake me up, I throw off the covers, cool down, cover back up and go back to sleep. During the day, the hot flashes are not so bad, usually just feels uncomfortable for a feel minutes. I have been on Sarafem for PMDD since October 2001, and my Dr says that it is probably keeping the symptoms at bay.

Anyone else on Sarafem with the same outcome?

Just wondering if I should expect symptoms to get worse or what. I don't know if I should even consider HRT because of history of strokes (my Mother), and my own endo.

I see Dr again in 3 weeks, she has not told me about any supplements (calcium etc). I do take a multivitamin now, but that is all. I just want to make sure I ask all of the right questions when I see Dr for the last time (I hope at least).

This site has so much info and has been very helpful.

Thanks.

With a family history of strokes, you're wise not to take HRT. I'm not familiar with Sarafem, but it's possible that it is is helping to keep your symptoms at bay.

Try searching this site for information about Sarafem and see what others have had to say about it.

sarafem is prozac. the drug company changed the name to sarafem when the patent for the trade name prozac was going to expire. when a drug is labeled for a new use ie. pms, etc. , they can change the name and continue to reap higher profits. another example of this is wellbutrin. when it is used for smoking cessation, it is called zyban. same drug, same effect but costs more if it is labeled zyban.

Thanks. That explains why they gave me prozac while I was in the hospital. I made them bring me the orders before I took it though.
