Recurrent UTIs?

I am having an issiue with painful urination that is symptomatic of recurrent UTIs. I have been cultured and on antibiotics twice. The second culture came back negative. After a few good days the pain comes back. I am currently on anibiotics for the third time, waiting for another culture. Is this normal after this type of surgery? Is it an issue that will clear up after time?

I have had two other situations in my life with recurrent UTIs, a silent kidney stone at 19 and Polyps on my Urethra at 39. Both of these took some time to diagnose, and in the interim I became very familiar with of the "rules" and suggestions to follow to help prevent this type of infection. I am also completely sure it is not yeast.

It has been two months as of yesterday that I had surgery for Ovarian Cancer. (TAH BSO) My tumor was 1B, but I am still fuzzy about the grading system. I have had my first Post-op CA125 - which dropped back to a normal level. So no Chemo for me for now -just quarterly check-ups.
I have learned from you ladies to get my pathology reports - which I shall do. It is hard to remember everything the doctors tell you when you are either on pain meds, in shock or both.

I am 44 and after the first month of living with of pretty rough menopausal symptoms, decided to try HRT (ERT,actully). It has been a godsend for me.
Thanks for any advice or direction you can give!

Recurrent UTIs?

Hi, I also had recurrent UTI's. Don't know if this helps, but I discouvered that my relaxing bathes did it to me. The bath water that I useually had bath bubbles or salts in would get inside me as I layed in it. Hence a major UTI. Good luck, I am so sorry about your cancer, but really happy for you that you will not need chemo yet, hopefully not at all. I had cervical cancer a few years ago, and i know how scary that was.

Recurrent UTIs?

Thanks for replying and for the tip. I know it is a good one because of my previous experiences. I have pretty much followed all of the standard protocal since I was 19. For example: showers not baths, loose clothing, white cotton panties, no perfumes or dyes in toilet paper, or perfumes and dyes in anything else that goes in the "area", drink unsweetened cranberry juice, eat blueberries, vitamin C, keepthe bladder empty, proper hygiene immediately after intimacy,etc..
And if you do take antibiotics - make sure you eat plain unsweetened yogurt to prevent a yeast infection..

I guess you develop some good habits and healthy fears if you hurt long enough without answers.

Recurrent UTIs?

I had two UTI's, one after the other, after surgery. I faithfully try and take my cranberry tablets.

Recurrent UTIs?

Good morning

I can't help you with the UTI but I may be able to answer the question re: cancer grade. The Grade of cancer is how similar or different the cells look when compared to normal cells. The lower the Grade, the better. For ovarian cancer, there is borderline and Grades 1, 2, 3 and 4. Your pathology reports should have this on it.

Should you have any questions re: your cancer diagnosis or how you feel about it, please check out the Cancer Concerns section of HysterSisters. Congrats on yours being 1B, as I am sure you know by now, Stage 1 and 2 are rare.
