One week Post-Op

Just wanted to say hi to all my hyster sisters. I am one week and two days post-op from my TAH/BSO. I'm recovering well. I am doing light housework (what I can, when I can) and resting alot.

I will post my hyst-story soon. If any one has any questions for me, just send me a post or private message.

My Mum has just come home from hospital today. She had surgery on Monday 1st August. Did you get severe stomach cramps and have no control of your bowels.

Kushla:
What a sweetie you are.
I had a prophylactic laporoscopic bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy on August 2. (I kept my uterus.) I have a history of ovarian cancer in my family. My stay in the Castle was a grand 3.5 hours.
YES, the cramping is severe. I was up from 2 am this morning attempting to pass the gas and have a BM. TMI I know.
Later this morning I had no control whatsoever and I was mortified.
To add to my pleasant time, I live in Punta Gorda Florida, home of last year's Hurricane Charley. Guess when they decided to finish the roof and lay the pavers around the pool? The dust and noise is overwhelming.
Your mum will get better each day. Especially with a lovely daughter like yourself being concerned about her. I have had enough peppermint tea to sink the Queen Mary 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hugs to all.

Hi~

I had my LAVH/BSO this past Monday, August 1. I had 1 bowel movement the day after I got home (was only in the castle for 1 night) and had not yet passed gas or had a BM. The following day I did have 1 very loose movement which I was grateful for. I think the Colace started kicking in last night, I have now had 7 movements since 2:30 this morning and am very happy I have with the exception of brief bad cramping when the urge hits me.

My primary concern now is the hot flashes that awaken me in the night, however, I really don't want to depend on HRT treatments as my sister has ovca. I wasn't in menopause prior to my surgery, although I was starting to have hot flashes during the couple of months in between periods. This is worse than ever before.

Best wishes to all for speedy and uncomplicated recoveries!

Answer to Kushla

Kushla,
I haven't experienced loose stool; but I did have terrible cramps due to gas and the TAH/BSO. Every now and then I still experience them. I started passing gas three hours after surgery, had my first BM within 48 hours of the surgery, and I am still taking stool softner. I have had a lot of pain trying to have a BM or urinate.

Hope this helps!

Hugs to you 3 sisters
I am not on any HRT either. No doctor has ever taken me seriously when I tell them that I have suffered incredibly with peri-menopause. Well, at first they told me that I was not ready for HRT, and then the Women's Health Initiative came out and the rest is history. Now they say that you can take them in order to get through the really tough times. I had months of sleep that did not ever last more than an hour and a half at a stretch.
The only product that I have found to help me is Estroven. You can get that OTC. I found that the generic, look alikes did not have the same benefit for me.
I hope that can help you because I do understand your concern about hormones.

Hi I am 6 days post op TAH/BSO and doing ok. I am a little concerned that I have not had a bm since before surgery. I am taking stool softener and drinking plenty of liquids. Stay strong with me and we will make through.
