Nausea, gas and morning bm discomfort

Today is my 3rd week post-op. I have no pain but I'm still experiencing horrible nausea, gas (GasX helps it) and I wake up every morning at about 5:00-6:00 am with an urge to go to move my bowels. After this I'm unable to go back to sleep. I can handle the gas but the nausea is awful. Is this normal 3 weeks after surgery?

Re: Nausea, gas and morning bm discomfort

Are you taking any medication? Painkillers? Antibiotics?

Sometimes even Ibuprofen can cause nausea if you are taking it often. It could also be some lingering affects of the anesthesia. It can take a long time to get completely out of your system.

I hope you get to the bottom of it so you can start feeling better. Best of luck to you.

No, I'm not taking any painkillers or antibiotics. I also want to point out that my nausea started after a week post op and has been there for 2 weeks now. I'm hoping that it will get better with time...

Re: Nausea, gas and morning bm discomfort

hmmmmm....does the nausea seem to get better when you pass gas? I know if I got too gassy, I would get a little queasy.

I'm not sure though, have you spoken to your about this? Do you have a fever? Hoping it is nothing serious. I would say that if it doesn't get better soon, you should probably call your doctor just to make sure everything is okay.

Keep us posted.

Thank you Traeleigh for your replies.

Yes, the nausea seem to get better when I pass gas. I talked to the GYN nurse about this and was given Zofran. I'm just concerned because I don't want to keep taking medications. I just wish that it will just go away...

I had to take GasX for quite awhile. I had some issues with my bowels not wanting to work right and that is where my nausea came from. Walking also helps with the gas. I hope you get feeling better soon, sweetie! Healing is hard enough without these added complications. Keeping you in my thoughts!

Careful with the zofran. It can cause horrible constipation and if that's what's causing your nausea, it may only worsen things. They usually suggest taken a stool softener every day when taking zofran.

I hope you feel better ;( Nausea is no fun.
