are there any internal stiches?

Hello gals. I had a laproscopic supracervical hyst and bilateral ooph and tubes removed on april 5th. I also had endo removed and a 12 inch fibroid. I have to return to work tomorrow. I have read other posts cautioning about the internal stitches that need to heal. Does this apply to the type of procedure I had? Mine was robotic assisted and cervix was left in. Thanks for any info and this wonderful site.

Re: are there any internal stiches?

I had the same operation as you, but I also had my cervix removed. I know that I have stitches in the vaginal cuff and also 3 layers of stitches under the incisions. The incisions themselves were glued, but in two of them the underlaying stitches have worked their way to the top. As for where the uterus, ovaries and adhesions were, that was all cauterized.

Good luck on returning to work!

Re: are there any internal stiches?

Thanks for responding. I suppose I also would have internal stitches underneath the visible ones, but keep forgetting to ask my doc! Menopause memory deficit.

Not necessarily so you would need to ask your doctor. Some surgeons cauterize as they go rather than use internal stitches. It is not true that "all women have hundreds of internal stitches regardless of hysterectomy type" as some women believe and post.

Even if you don't have all the internal stitches, the cauterized areas still need to heal so be sure you have your doctor's permission before you return to work. If your doctor has to go back and fix something, you then could end up with lots of internal and external stitches!

Re: are there any internal stiches?

Check with your doctor. I had an LSH, and while I didn't have nearly "hundreds" of internal stitches, I did still have some; they do have to sever some ligaments to get the uterus out, and reattach those ligaments with sutures. Where my uterus was separated from the cervix was cauterized, so no stitches. I kept my tubes and ovaries, and had steri-strips over my three incisions.

Best wishes!!
