Head rush!

Hi Ladies, I'm 4 weeks post op and for the past few days have been getting a serious head rush when I stand up! I think it may be because I'm standing up quicker now that my recovery is progressing because when I remember to stand up slowly it doesn't happen! Anyone else experienced this? My father in law says I should have my blood pressure checked as he said it's a sign of low blood pressure - but I'm not dizzy any other time. Would appreciate your advice. Thanks!

Mary

Re: Head rush!

I had a few days or the best part of a week when I suffered from dizziness. It was so bad one day that I had to get out of the shower and sit down. It was I the second week. Feel better soon. Get checked out if it keeps up

Re: Head rush!

I had it too my second week. Blood pressure was a little high, but not so high I should have been dizzy, blood sugar was great. I don't know, it sucked but went away after a few days.

Re: Head rush!

For me, that's a regular part of my life, and it's *exactly* due to low blood pressure (which I inherited from my mother). Because your blood pressure is low, it takes a bit longer to adjust when you change position quickly. So you get a head rush when you stand up quickly, but you don't have dizziness at other times.

It's normal for me, but it's obviously not something that's normal for you, so I'd suggest mentioning it to your doctor.

Re: Head rush!

That is definitely a sign that your blood pressure has dipped too low, but it's most likely nothing dangerous. I had that quite a bit prior to surgery and have gotten it fairly often during recovery (only one week post op). You could check your BP, but it's most likely fine. You would have to be taking your BP when you stand up for it to register anything and even that probably wouldn't work because if you move while taking your BP, it can result in a higher, inaccurate reading! As long as you feel fine afterward (meaning your BP has leveled out) than I'm sure your fine. Still, it couldn't hurt to chat with your doctor about it!

Re: Head rush!

Are you drinking plenty of fluids?? I know that happened to me early in my recovery when I got up in the morning. Then after drinking some fluids, I would feel much better!!
