Stitches left in for 5 weeks????????????

everybody!!!!

I had my LAVH 12 days ago. I have 3 small incisions that were closed with stitches. My only follow up appt was given to me in the during my discharge. It is for July 23rd. I guess I am supposed to keep these stiches in for 5 weeks?????? I have been keeping an eye on the incisions and they appear to be fine but I just don't know about keeping these stitches in for 5 weeks!

And I don't think they are the dissolvable kind or they surely would have dissolved by now

Can they rust or anything like that? I have NEVER had stitches before so I have NO idea! Please don't laugh at me I am totally clueless!!!!!!!

Re: Stitches left in for 5 weeks????????????

Call your doctor to verify. If they are dissolvable, I was told they can take up to 8 weeks to completely dissolve.

Re: Stitches left in for 5 weeks????????????

I'm uncomfortable with the fact that your Dr. didn't ask you to come in at least 2 weeks after surgery just to make sure your are on the right road to recovery. If I were you, I'd be knocking at the Drs office and asking him in person to take a look at it. You have the right to see the Dr. anytime you want.

Re: Stitches left in for 5 weeks????????????

Wow, five weeks IS a long time. I would think that they would want to remove them sooner so that the skin does not start to heal over them. You are wise to follow up. Let us know what they say.

Re: Stitches left in for 5 weeks????????????

I had a LAVH also. Initially I had two on the smaller incisions and I don't know about the belly button. The scare is about 1 1/2 long now. I had clear disolvable stitches. They were very hard. My dr. had to take a bit out at my four week mark but I found another a few days later in the belly button incision. It came off/broke off after five weeks. I would still call your dr though. I never would have though mine were disolvable but they were.

Re: Stitches left in for 5 weeks????????????

THese are definitley not clear. They look and feel like wires. That is why I asked if they could rust or not. I really don't think they are dissolvable. But I will find out in the AM I plan on calling maybe just maybe he will have me come in because I think my skin is already growing around the right incision. Maybe not. I'll just have to see.

Thanks for all the info tho!!!
