Advice for returning to work?

I am 6 weeks and 1 day post op from TVH, and cystocele repair with graft. I am a medical assistant, and I will be on my feet most of the day. The Dr I work for, is also MY doctor- (I am her Medical Assistant) I know she will be easy on me.. but any advice from the ladies that have returned to work?? I am a little scared.. my bladder still isnt functioning quite normally, and I have generalized pelvic/vaginal achiness if I have been too active. I go back to work on monday.

Re: Advice for returning to work?

Is it possible for you to get a stool so that you can sit down part of the day? Another idea would be to start part time and ease into the job as you feel up to it. I would be concerned about the pelvic/vaginal achiness and I would recommend that you mention it to your doctor. You may need more time off.

Re: Advice for returning to work?

Yes- I have a chair- the achiness is normal she said, with all the bladder repair I had. It is really only after I have been up and moving ALL day and doing alot. She did offer me part time.. but we are so short handed right now in nursing staff.. and I think I will be OK. It helps I work with her.... she will go easy on me. I think the chair and Ibuprofen will be my BEST friend for a while!

I hope you do well. Don't be shy of letting her know it is beyond you if that happens.

Re: Advice for returning to work?

Plan for coming home and just resting at night. Cook on the weekend for the week so you can just come in and put your feet up. It may take a week or 2 to really feel comfortable working all day, so be prepared for lots of downtime at home. I hope it works out well for you.

Good idea about the meals Grey! Thanks! Wish me luck!! I am DREADING tomorrow!! I am more dreading answering a billion times the same question I will be asked over and over: "How are you feeling" I think I just want to be left alone......I don't want it to be a big deal.

Re: Advice for returning to work?

Well, I just went back this past Monday. It's kind of like exercising- you may be tired and sore at first, but it gets better each time, you just have to build up your tolerance. I worked Monday and Tuesday and then had a few days off. I worked 8 hrs yesterday and felt far better and less tired and sore than I did after working earlier in the week.

Good luck on your return!
