Bowel Prep ??

What kind of bowel preps have you been told to do?
How do the docs decide who has to have one or not?

Thanks
Stephanie

Bowel Prep ??

This seems to really vary by surgeon. When I had laparoscopy for my endo 2 years ago, I had to take 'flash' which completely empties your inside. And yet, for my hysterectomy (with a different surgeon) she didn't do any bowel prep at all.... boy did I feel lucky or what...
Often they do it at the hospital. It all depends on what they are doing to you and what your surgeon's preference is.

Bowel Prep ??

I had a TVH and no bowel prep. I think it depends on your doctor.

Bowel Prep ??

I had my pre op today and my doctor said that I do not have to do any type of bowel prep. Just have to eat liquid diet the night before. I am having a TAH, A&P, and Burch procedure.

Bowel Prep ??

Hi, I had pre op appt and from what the gyn said they usually only get you to have a bowel prep if they think there maybe a possibility of operating on the bowel. I too had to have one with my last surgery which was for endo but do not need one for my hyst. I honestly thought that they would get everyone to do one incase of the unexpected, but they are the experts.

Bowel Prep ??

I wonder too why they don't do them on everyone just in case the bowel comes in to play once they are in there?
I know I have a mass of adhesions she will have to cut through to get to the uterus, Plus I've had two othere specialists say I would need a second general surgeon in there too because of a high chance of needing a bowel resection. But the surgeon thats going to do my surgery said she will try a vag removal and only her in the OR.
I'm still not 100% comfortable with that. I'll have to talk to her more at my pre-op.
Thanks,
Stephanie

Burch Procedure:
This is one of the best procedures for stress incontinence.
The space behind the pubic bone is entered through a horizontal incision in the lower abdomen and sutures are placed on both sides of the urethra and are attached to a strong ligament in the pelvis.

My doctor described it kind of like a bladder tack. She is doing this instead of the sling.
