Hi Everyone! I'm back at work and am finally able to communicate with everyone again. Had the TAH, including removal of the cervix but kept ovaries. The op went well but spent the 1st 24 hours throwing up absolutely everything. Had an epidural in for 4 days!!! Yow. The hospital staff was excellent, one night nurse even brought me a gingerale in the middle of the night to try to settle my stomach. So, apparently a "normal" uterus weights 60 grams. Mine weighed 615 grams. Plus there was endo, fibroids, cysts. No wonder my belly was enlarged. Got weighed at the dr's last week, 9 pounds lighter than pre-op. Yeah! Recovery is going pretty smoothly. The 1st week out of the hospital was the worst of it; mostly from the meds. They made me woozy and lethargic so I switched to something lighter. Had all of my restrictions lifted last week by the surgeon. Darn, I had to come back to work. But I refuse to lift anything too heavy at this point. As it is I go home at the end of the day with a backache and bloating because I'm not getting up and moving around enough. Anyway, I just wanted to check in with everyone. Take care of yourselves.
Karen in Hazelridge.

Thanks for letting us know how you are. Yes, be sure to rest when you can and not overdo. I had bloating and swelly belly for a couple of months until all was healed inside.

Take care and wishing you smooth post-op recovery.

TAH/BSO 3/19/07. I returned to work on 5/14. I have cramping throughout my back and abs. I, too am still bloated and find elastic waists are my best friends. I go home at the end of the day and lay down. I have found that a cold pack on my swelly belly does feel nice. Yesterday I felt as though my abdomen was very hard.

I had my surgery on 4/3 - I had a hysterestomy about 15 years ago and this time the ovaries and tubes and lots of internal "clean-up"- so I had the abdominal incision. I am 7 weeks post-op tomorrow and am also still having some cramping and lots of swelling, some pain twinges and a hard ridge along my incision that the doctor said "just happens sometimes" I kept expecting to be completely recovered by now (with past surgeries I recovered much faster) and have been feeling like something was wrong because I'm not - reading your posts helps. I'm not a very patient person and I want the pain and swelling gone now... I'm also very stubborn and a lot of times think I know what is best and have to admit that I have probably been much too active much too soon. So I suppose all this is "normal" though I still worry that I am going to hurt or tear something, but my doctor gave me a complete release.
