Difficulty voiding post op

I had a TVH A and p repair bladder lifted with sling on the 12th Had foley cath in for 2 days They took it out on 14th, was voiding in hospital so sent home. Going that night at home but not as much as usual thought I might be retaining. Sun am the 15th woke feeling like I had to go alot but couldnt go at all the more I tried the more it hurt . I went to ER was cathed for 1500 ml and foley left in and sent home. I saw urologist Mon am they put 300 cc ns in bladder and had me void. I was able to go so foley left out and I went home. I was voiding at home rest of Monday Tues and Wed but suspected I was not emptying called dr about this wed am and once in afternoon they didnt call back until it was too late to go in to office. Thurs Am woke with full bladder unable to go at all when I tried to go had pain but no urine. Back to ER cathed for 750 ml foley left in Wont be taken out until Dr visit next Wed the 25th. Any advice support stories from others who have been through this would be welcomed.

Re: Difficulty voiding post op

I didn't have bladder repairs at the time of my tah/bso but do have issues with getting the bladder to work following surgery. I hope things get better for you. :bighugs;

Re: Difficulty voiding post op

I so feel your pain, I had a bladder sling repair as well. I was sent home with a cath, could not empty in hospital. I kept it for a week, got a bladder inf. When they removed it, I could empty ok. Things just get swollen down there and bladder won't work right. My bladder works fine now, but I was so nervous that it wouldn't I made myself sick. It was hell having that cath for so long, my urethra still sort of hurts but getting better. It will be ok. My Dr said this happens to 30 to 40 percent of us who have bladder suspension repairs. Just try not to get nervous. Something I did that helped me pee was to run warm water over the one hand that would reach my sink, and say the Lord's prayer and it worked everytime. I don't think god cares where or why you pray, he just hears you all the same.

Re: Difficulty voiding post op

I got my cath out on the 25th. Voided small amounts frequently that day and the next. Woke up unable to go at all yesterday Am self cathed 3 times that day, I think i'm retaining today attempted to self cath today but could only get part way in ended up with blood on cath even though I used alot of lubrication. I'm very depressed. I cried today. Would apreciate any support or messages I can get.
