Feeling frustrated!

Hi all hope you are all as well as you can be. I'm just feeling so frustrated at the moment and a bit of a wimp to be honest after reading how quickly some of you have recovered! I'm about 8-9 weeks post op now and had a subtotal hysterectomy, left ovary removed and patches of endometriosis and adhesions removed from bowel and pouch of Douglas. Hysterectomy wise my recovery has been great apart from the odd bit of pain where my left ovary was (I had the right ovary removed some years ago) and I am getting around ok. The problem I am having is with constipation and back pain. I don't know if the back pain is a result of the constipation or something else. The pain is radiating to my hip and down my leg to the point my leg feels like it's going to collapse under me and it's sometimes agony just to put weight on it at all! I've tried everything for constipation and I'm trying not to take anything for the pain. I'm eating fresh fruit and vegetables everyday and loads of water and my GP has put me on prucalopride which has helped but when I do go I don't feel like I've emptied my bowel. My stomach is so bloated and uncomfortable I can't stand any pressure on it. I'm going to go back to the doctor if I can ever get an appointment! I thought I'd be back to normal by now and back at work. I'm sorry to go on I know everyone is feeling rubbish I just needed to vent in a forum where people understand I feel like I'm doing my friends and family's head in!

Thanks for reading if you do! Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Jill

Re: Feeling frustrated!

Jill, sorry to hear about your problems. I know I'm frustrated at how I feel and thinking I should be much better than what I am by now. And I'm not as far along as you. I still am taking stool softeners as of now, two in the morning and one at night. That has helped to keep my bowels regulated. I need to start cutting back, but I will do that gradually. Do you think the leg pain is possibly your sciatic nerve all irritated? I'm not sure about the back pain, but the pain from the hip down the leg sounds a lot like that nerve is giving you problems. They might need to give you a muscle relaxer to take along with an anti inflammatory medicine. You might can even check with your family dr about that. I hope things start getting better for you. I'm still having bad bloating days also, they come and go. And Im so sick of the weight gain! Best wishes on your recovery

Re: Feeling frustrated!

Thank you for the replies I still have managed to get a doctors appointment but I'll keep trying! Yes I think it might be sciatica I've had it before but it wasn't this bad I just want to get back to normal (as we all do!). I suffered with constipation before my surgery but not to this extent and the bloating is awful isn't it! I wish you both well in your recoveries too I'm so grateful I found this site I wish I'd found it before my op! Thanks again

Re: Feeling frustrated!

Hi jillb80,I'm sorry to hear about your pain but I had the same type of hip pain radiating down legs. My pcp sent me to physical therapy for 8 weeks after xrays and determining that it was nerve pain. The pt diagnosed that scar tissue was growing too close to my sciatic nerve and another frontal nerve whose name I forgot. The goal was to make the scar tissue break up. It worked. I wish u the best. That pain is awful and makes u dysfunctional. I could not return to work with that. I was so grateful to my pcp and physical therapist.

Hi thanks for the reply! That would actually make a lot of sense. I've had this pain on and off for a while since a previous operation to remove cysts, adhesions and endometriosis in January 2012 and it has gradually got worse to the point I'm at now. I always put it down to just another symptom of my endo and it would get better after hysterectomy not worse! I'll certainly mention it to my doctor. I'm sorry you had to suffer it too it's horrible!

Re: Feeling frustrated!

Jill,

I have had similar pain for 7 months now. Mine started when my gyne told me I had pelvic organ prolapse and sent me to a specialist. I went and they said I had stage 2 uterine prolapse, cystocele and rectocele. They did trigger point therapy and physical therapy in hopes of making my pelvic floor stronger. However, after a few sessions I was in excruciating pain. Lower r quadrant to hip, buttock, thigh, muscle weakness, tingling, twitching muscles pain and horrible, horrible pain. I suffered for 6 months and finally found a doc to do a hysterectomy for me. Its 6 weeks out from surgery, my sciatica seems pretty much gone, but the hip, buttock and groin pain are still hanging around. I havent been able to work for 7 months. Some days are better than others, some days hurt so bad, I can hardly walk and I am in tears. I wish i could tell you a cure. I wish I knew! If you ever feel like chatting, feel free to respond here or send me a msg. I can definately relate. Lisa
