Cervix only removed after hysterectomy?

I had my LSH and BSO in May, 2008. I have been having lots of pain, and my DR just mentioned I may need to go in for another surgery to remove my cervix. Has anyone else had this surgery done? What is the recovery time? Is it going to be just as bad as when I had my hysterectomy?

Your doc thinks the pain is from your cervix? Did he say his reasoning, or anything else that it could be...like adhesions or anything?

Cervix only removed after hysterectomy?

Well, my DR still isn't sure where the pain is coming from. I had very severe endometriosis before my surgery, so it is possible the endo is back. Since the pain is most severe when I stand up, or if I have been standing up all day, she thinks my cervix may be "falling" and causing the pain. I have an ultrasound scheduled, which would rule out a couple of other things (fluid build up was the other concern). We will try other things before resulting to surgery again, but I am just wondering what that surgery is like.

Oh, hmmm. My cervix was removed with the TVH. If I am up too much I still get pressure also, but I am only 3 weeks post. When they remove the cervix they will stitch up a 'vag-cuff" which will take about 6 weeks to heal. I don't think you would have to stay over night if it was done in the morning, but I guess that would depend on if they did anything else also at the time and how you were feeling. Your doc would give you the scoop though.
Sorry to hear about your long ordeal with endo.

I can't imagine it would be terribly painful. With the TVH I felt very good after only a few days. Hoping it will be an in and out deal for you and you will not have to suffer again.

I'm sorry to hear you are still having problems and might need another surgery.

You might try doing a search for "trachelectomy"--that's what it's called when you have your cervix removed. You will pick up some information on women who have had a trachelectomy due to cervical cancer (they remove the cervix and leave the uterus behind, stitching the end of the uterus to form an artificial cervix), but we have had a couple of members who've had the cervix removed after their hysterectomy.

As far as recovery, I've read anything from 3 to 6 weeks, so you might want to ask your doctor for the specifics involved in your situation.

Good luck! Let us know what you end up doing.
