Blood transfusion?

Has anyone had one prior to surgery? I am scheduled for surgery on the 15th. Dr called today re:CBC because of heavy bleeding(she's been running a CBC once a week lately) And my hemaglobin is low and if it drops like it has been it will be too low to safely do surgery. So I'm scheduled to have the transfusion on the 13th. If I wasnt freaked out to begin with, now I really am!

Re: Blood transfusion?

I can help you!!! Oh my gosh I was freaked too! Everything was an emergency for me and when they told me I needed 4, yes 4 blood transfusions, I was scared. Petrified if you will.

Well I wasted a lot of energy on being freaked out. My blood transfusions were easy. My hemoglobin was a 5 when they transfused me.3 days later it was a 10 and was able to have the emergency surgery.

You can't even tell you are being transfused. Bring some magazines with you as the process can take awhile depending on how much you need. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the transfusions. I have a whole new respect for blood donors!

Blood transfusion?

Thank you!! While this hasn't been an emergent basis, it's all gone downhill so fast. Scary. I appreciate your reply!❤️

I never let you know how wonderful the procedure went. It was easy. And omg I felt so much better. Now after surgery I'm still at a 7 but we are waiting to see where I stand before doing another.

I have definitely gained a new respect for blood donors as well. Someone saved my life.

Re: Blood transfusion?

I'm a blood donation coordinator and American Red Cross Club sponsor: please, if you can DONATE blood. It saves lives. Hoping I don't need blood products during my surgery, but glad for donors.
