Severe localized pain on movement - 9 days post op
Trying to figure out what's going on, and if I should call the urgent care dept. at my doctor's today, or wait till tomorrow and talk to my OB/Gyn who did my surgery.
LSH on 9/11, along with a rectocele repair and a cystocele repair that included a bladder sling and the tape under the urethra to help with stress incontinence - had 2 different doctors (OB/Gyn and Uri-gyn) doing the 2 different procedures at the same time, so I have 2 doctors to follow up with post-op, and it gets confusing who can help with what.
Pain was bad post-op, bad enough they kept me in the hospital an extra night, so I went home 9/13 - I have fibromyalgia, so my pain tolerance basically sucks. Been basically couch bound with some walking for the past week, and had major issues with BM because of confusing information post op - they told my husband they accidentally clamped my colon during surgery, so I was to follow a low fiber diet for a while just in case, although they called a general surgeon in during the surgery who did not see any damage. I have IBS-C, so that's already a problem, plus I was on Oxycontin every 12 hours, Naproxen, and Percasets every 4-6...add no fiber due to instructions, and that was bad - I have been taking Colace every 12 hours since I got home tho.
Bleeding is constant but light, but no one had set any expectations with me so I called the Uri-gyn (figured that was probably the cause of the bleeding if my cervix was left in place??) for advice. Nurse was terse and judgemental - I should not need any pain meds now, have to get off them asap, HAD TO HAVE A BM BY THEN, etc, she made me feel incredibly stupid, so I went off all pain meds but Tylenol and Naproxen, used Milk of Magnesia three times, and that problem was solved.
The issue at hand (sorry for being long winded) - I have had bad pain over my right hipbone/incision for several days, even with the Oxycontin/Percoset. My ob/gyn said that is the incision the morselizer machine went in, and more pain on that side is normal, ok. But since being off the narcotics, that is really the MAIN source of severe pain, with general pain very diffuse now, and manageable with what I'm using.
Last night I went to get up (yesterday was the day I was most active since 9/11, but it consisted of walking maybe 1/2 hr in total, taking a car ride, and folding laundry while sittng on the couch) and I literally crumpled. Could not stand. The pain in my right side was like a hot poker, sharp and burning. Was helped back to the couch and had to sit with my right leg bent up against my body, then a little later a folded blanket held tight against my abdomen. Sleeping is only ok if I do not move a muscle, otherwise it feels like things are tearing and burning. Incision looks ok the steri-strip just came off, there was some yellowish discharge under but it was tight for 8 days, and it's not really continuing now.
Just not sure if I should go to urgent care today and have folks who aren't this specialty trying to guess or if it's ok, given that the pain is only when I move/sneeze/cough/laugh, to wait till tomorrow to talk to my Ob/gyn (although I am going to see if they can page him).
Any thoughts appreciated, thanks for sticking with me this far! LOL!

Nique
Is the incision warm when you touch it? That could be a sign that there is an infection. Which, if that's the case, I would probably head over to the urgent care if it was me.
But, that being said, if I was in severe pain, I would been laying down the law with my ! My mom has been dianosed with fibro as well. So knowing what she's been through, your body is probably reacting to pain differently. You need to find a that is sensitive to your conditon. My mom finally found a great doc that has her pain under control. That includes epidural's in her neck every few months and an rx for morphine.
I hope you start feeling better soon.

Thanks, LookingforaSis
The incision is not warm to the touch, that I can tell, and I just checked and have no fever. I'm going to call and see if they can page my ob/gyn doctor. I will see what they have to say I guess.
Totally agree about the fibro thing - my primary care doc is honestly AMAZING and very helpful - the ob/gyn that did the hysterectomy, and his staff, were the same, but that nurse that made me feel like that was part of the Uri-gyn staff...in a different office than I usually go to. So yeah, glad I have my doctors at my office, and that I only have to go to the other place for the specialty things.

Re: Severe localized pain on movement - 9 days post op
So I called the urgent care and they got me in touch with my ob/gyn. He said this pain is not normal, and should not be worse than the day after surgery - asked a lot of questions, including why was I off the oxycontin if I still needed pain meds in between the 12 hours doses for the breakthru pain - he said the oxycontin should be the 2nd to last to go, only after I no longer need either Percoset or Tylenol in between the 12 hour doses of Oxycontin and Naproxen.
He said this isn't normal, and he's concerned, but it could just be how I deal with pain and the fact that this incision is three times the size of the others means it will hurt more. He asked me to take my temp several times a day and watch the incision, if I get even a low grade fever or a ring of redness around the incision, I'm to call to be seen right away. In the meantime, sit down, take an oxycontin, take pain meds as needed, and he'll check on me tomorrow.
He spent a long time on the phone with me - over 15 mins. Just that alone makes me feel much better, strangely enough.
