Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 10-Jul 16,2017

If your hysterectomy was between Jul 10-Jul 16,2017 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your hysterectomy recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads now begin in our special forum for all Hysterectomy Recovery Reports and will remain there for you to always find your discussion.
  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!
  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 10-Jul 16,2017

Princesses to your Recovery Progress Report thread and the Otherside,

This is your thread for sharing with and caring for your kind sisters and caring for yourself. It will be as helpful as you make it. You can compare experiences, share progress, vent frustrations, ask questions and just generally find understanding.

I am your SunshineSister and remember how good it felt to have my surgery over. I am here to say "You are not alone" and to share my personal experiences and the things I have learned from other sisters. I had my DvH/BSO with rectocele & cystocele repairs 1/16/14 and had a slow but uncomplicated recovery.

Recovery is different for everyone and there is No Normal but we will have similarities to share. Initial recovery usually take 6-12 weeks and full healing can be up to 1 year. You know your body, listen to it. Heed any warning signs and please go slow. Healing will be faster with no overdoing set backs.

Make sure your profile has your correct surgery type, this is helpful as some answers to questions depend on this. Also while you are editing, where you are in this wide world can be fun.

So some Sisterly advice:
- Be kind to yourself & listen to your body.
-Follow your Dr's orders and limitations
-Accept help from family and friends. You just had MAJOR SURGERY!!
-Drink lots of water and eat healthy tummy friendly foods
-Rest,Rest, Rest, and Rest
-Walk a little each hour that you are awake (to bathroom, to get a cup of tea or glass of water)

Feel free to ask any question about anything that comes up or if you just need a cyber ((hug)). ASK.

This site has some great articles, so explore while you are doing some of that resting. Lol You could start at the top of screen with Articles in grey letters. The big blue bar helps with info also, including Hysteretomy Checkpoints. I really liked this. It let me know what to expect as I progressed in my healing.

Don't forget the post op forum to ask questions of sisters farther along in their healing who might have had a similar issue or concern. I will definitely be letting you know when this is a good idea.

So as you begin your healing remember you just had MAJOR SURGERY! You have One Chance to get this right. So please listen to your body and take care of you. That is the main task for you the next few weeks. We are here to help. See you when you are ready to post.

You have my prayers and good thoughts for your recovery.

Lots of Gentle Hugs,
Anndy

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 10-Jul 16,2017

All went well with the surgery today from what my husband told me. I haven't seen the doctor since it (I don't think so at least, lol)

Pain isn't too bad, Norco is keeping it in check. I've definitely had worse.

I can't sleep though. Guess I got enough today.

Now I know I have along road of recovery but I'm optimistic that I can handle it. I don't think it's going to be as bad as a bad flare of Fibromyalgia.

Thank you all for the support. To those of you awaiting surgery, don't worry so much. It was much worse in my head before it than reality is now.

CAT to the otherside,

So glad you did well. Now it is time to start healing and for that it will take patience and listening to your body. For this first few days please stay slow. Walk when you can and remember to drink lots of water . These two things will help lots. Listen to your nurses. Have they said yet when you will get to come home?

Lots of Gentle Hugs,
Anndy

Good thoughts about the blood work so you can get home. You will rest better there. Soon you will have some sisters checking in to post with. If you are up to it you could post on the pre op forum between naps. I remember being bored and tired but only able to cat nap right after. How that works I don't know?

Hugs,

Well, today I had my LAVH. What's telling is that it hurts less then my menstral cramps. What hurts the worst, and what I hate most about abdominal surgery, is the gas pains in my shoulders.
This is something most of you will experience as it's due to the gas they needed to use to distend the Tummy.

Things that help: heating pads on the shoulders. Don't know why, just does. Hot tea or water helps too. It lessens after 24 but it gets worse before it gets better.

My worries before surgery: my vagina is extremely small. Like women pay thousands of dollars to have a vagina close to how small mine is. It's NOT a good thing. When I had my daughter 6 years ago, I experienced 4th degree tears so severe that it took hundreds of stiches to sew me up. After those busted after my first BM, I had to live with pooping out of my vagina for 6 months before they could even try to fix me again due to my soft tissue being so damaged. Then another 6 months of healing from that surgery.
SO, that being said I was extremely worried that the vaginal part of the operation would tear me again. I warned the doctor if that was the case, abort mission and do it another way.
Just got off the phone with her, she is amazed I even pushed a baby out at all. She went on for a good 5 minutes about how she almost couldn't get her instruments in there to take my cervix out. But, even though my vagina was so small, I did not rip or tear and she was very careful. If this is a concern for you, LET YOUR DOCTOR KNOW. they will take extra care with you.
I was worried about the pain also, what with the cervix being taken out and my uterus being pull from down there. Surprisingly I have very little pain in my tummy and zero pain in my vagina. She was super super careful the whole time. God bless her.
If you have any questions about your upcoming hysterectomy put them here, I'm just laying around being bored anyway!

I can't wait to start working out again and getting my energy back! Woot!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 10-Jul 16,2017

Hi everyone. My surgery was yesterday (Monday). All went well, but I was nauseous/sick from the anesthesia. Now that I'm home, it's a little less painful than I wa expecting, but I can't get comfortable for anything. Hoping it's from the insaflate gas and will go away soon.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 10-Jul 16,2017

Hi and Steph,

Glad to have you on the otherside and at home. Walking and changing your position will help with the gas that was used inside to give the Dr. room to work. If it get too uncomfortable in the shoulders or neck try a heating pad. It usually only takes a few days to all work its way out. And for some it's not much of a problem. I hardly felt it.

Do want to mention to all, please keep drinking that water!! a little each time you get up. Maybe for 5 minutes nothing strenuous just gently moving around. You may still be under some effects of the anesthesia and narcotics (even if you aren't still taking them) so be careful if you fell light headed. Please stick with your Drs restriction even if you are feeling great. Again it can take a couple of days before you "feel" the full effects of your surgery so please stay slow. You don't want to overdo because you are still drugged. Lol. I was amazed at how good I felt when I got home but then on about day 4 my body said slow down.

I'm off to bed but will be checking in first thing tomorrow am.

Gentle Sister Hugs for all, even you lurkers,
Anndy

Had my Hyst today

Kept ovaries. So far so good except that the night nurse took over 20min to get back to me for my pain meds. As I was already past the 2hrs that they had said they were going to give me morphine 2ml I think. Sorry still loopy. I finally got my meds. But it was so painful that I wanted to punch somebody. And I have a high pain tolerance!! Day nurse was much nicer that's for sure. Anywho. My doesn't appear toos wollen but I haven't passed gas just burps. My cath comes out tomorrow and I've already walked. Surgery was at 12:30 am I walked at 9:30 pm. Goodnight. Getting sleepy again
