Really Need To Know.

My dr. told me that one ovary should produce enough hormones to avoid going into menopause. Good luck with any decision you make. I am trying to decide on taking one out or leaving them both in.

Hi poninski03,

to Hyster Sisters. I'm sorry that you are facing surgery, but glad that you found us. Please be sure to go back into your control panel and add your surgery date so you'll be on the calendar and will receive special greetings from HS.

I kept both of my ovaries, so can't answer from personal experience, but I believe that some ladies find that their ovaries go into "surgical shock" afterwards, and that it can take a few weeks before their ovaries begin to function again.

Post-Op Weeks 1 - 2 in the HS Checkpoints (click onto the link in the purple bar above) has information about some symptoms you may experience after surgery.

I hope that you'll continue to read, research and post questions.

Really Need To Know.

I had one ovary removed and haven't really noticed much difference.

I did have unrelated surgery a few months before my hyst and, afterward, was SO cold. I'm a tad cold natured anyway. But, I my lonely little ovary may have been indignant after my hyst because I was SO hot after the hyst. It only lasted a day or two, though.

It seems to be our mantra that "everyone's different." But, I don't think a woman would necessarily have menopausal symptoms going from two ovaries to one.

Good luck to you.

Really Need To Know.

Just talked with my sister-in-law this evening. She had one ovary removed after the birth of her first child, then had two more children. She later had to have everything else removed, including the other ovary.

She's on hormones now, but feels just fine now that she's found the right balance of hormones to take.

Really Need To Know.

I had 1 ovary removed YEARS ago and it never affected my body at all. I still had normal periods, etc...I had a TVH on Dec 6th and left that one ovary I had. No menopause symptoms.

Now, at first I had the hot flashes, etc..but they say it is just your body parts have to "wake up" from surgery.

Good luck

Really Need To Know.

I'm going in on friday for a TAVH and they are taking my left ovary. My dr said the same as what everyone else is saying that the one should work as two and there shouldn't be any problems.

Just wanted to let you know you aren't the only one.

Really Need To Know.

I had a TAH on Feb. 28. One ovary was also removed since it had been damaged by my enlarged uterus and -- accoding to the surgeon -- was clearly no longer functioning.

So it probably had not been functional for some time yet I still had periods and (fortunately mild) PMS etc. I'm therefore assuming my remaining ovary is one tough and dedicated hombre since it has probably been carrying the entire workload on its own.

My experience to date is very short term but I haven't noticed any difference over the past couple of weeks.

Keep well,
