What can I do with young kids during recovery?

All ideas are wonderful! I am fortunate to have my relatives swapping care for my 3 boys ages 9, 3-1/2 and 2. A suggestion that may help keep them occupied is to wrap up age appropriate "gifts" to open at different intervals while daddy is away. These should be ones that occupy and are time consuming. Just an idea!

Good luck!!

One more thing... A gallon of milk is almost 10 pounds. Get DH to pour it into smaller pitchers or pour a days supply of sippy cups to leave in the fridge.

take care

Oh my -

I understand completely... I have a 15 month old and a 6 yr. old. Thank goodness my Mom is taking a week off to help out. I signed my DD up for our township's recreation.... it's free and around the corner at a local park. This way - she gets out and my Mom doesn't have to contend with entertaining her and my DS. I have stocked up on alot of things my DD has wanted to try - such as stitch kits that she can come up and do with me sitting in the bed.
Of course my DS has picked this time to go through the attachment to mommy, only mommy - no one else but mommy and just in case you didn't know she's MY MOMMY stage... DH can't kiss me if I'm holding him - he tries to push us apart.... This is the same child who 2 weeks ago would have cared less if I had disappeared in a little puff of smoke as long as Daddy was there so go figure!
I think your 7 yr. old will be fine - come up with a daily schedule for your kids - do it with them and write it up and post it. Get them a timer that the 7 yr. old can work and let them have their own pre-school. Have the 7 yr. old earn some money (change) for helping run your little in house daycare.
You could do things like 9 am - 9:45 is building time and let them go to town with legos or blocks, then 9:45 - 10 is a snack time and 10 to 11 am is cartoon time, 11 am to 11:30 is jump around and be silly time (great way to blow off steam) get them a kids exercise tape (either video or audio) and let them do it. 11:30 - 12 is color time and Noon is lunch, etc....
Best of luck to you!

What can I do with young kids during recovery?

I am in a similar situation! Everyone has told me that I have picked out the worst possible date to schedule my surgery! My parents have a trip planned and have had flights booked eight months ago and my inlaws have agreed to have another grandchild over for the week. I have been so stressed that I now have shingles. My kids are 1 and 3. So far a few folks from church have offered to help and neighbors have said "if you need anything just let me know..." But most of our neighbors are retired. My kids would have them exhausted by noon. I am fortunate that we do have daycare a few days a week. Maybe you could trade off some babysitting time with some friends if they help you now, and then you can help them when you are feeling better. Maybe a weekend get-a-way for the two of them... might be worth a shot. I wish you well and I will pray that things work out for you. Hang in there!

bribes.

Kerrie...

You have gotten some terrific advice from the sisters. I have two young ones as well and one thing to add that I did was I got a plastic cup and filled it with quarters and sat it beside me on a table. Every time I needed something, a glass of water, slippers, or someone to go for a 'walk' with me I gave them a 'tip' of one quarter. I would also reward them if they were playing nice and quietly. It was fun to see them count up their money at the end of each day!

Great Luck with your castle trip!
Sandra.
