Vaginal Pain 3 weeks post hysterectomy
Hi everyone-
Yesterday was 3 weeks since surgery. As mentioned in a previous post, I have had minimal, next to no pain, until about 2 days ago. Last night I had sharp pain all in my belly, mostly by the incision on the right side.(gas???) and in my vagina. It feels like a pressure, stabbing pain. Like a tampon inserted the wrong way.Like a pressure. Is this normal???? I have been extra sleepy yesterday, and wasn't like that before. I carried a aluminum ladder and climbed up to hang a curtain a couple of days ago because I felt great. Now I'm worried I have one of those vaginal cuff tears. I have NO fever, spotting or any other issues, other than those above. HELP!!!

Re: Vaginal Pain
If you had a cuff tear, you would notice bleeding, spotting or some other outward sign. You might have pulled something internally, though, which wouldn't result in noticeable bleeding. Remember, we've had multiple internal incisions as a result of having things removed - ligaments, nerves, blood supply. It's good that you're monitoring for other possible red flags.
Carrying a ladder and hanging curtains just may be, possibly, likely considered overdoing it! At 3 weeks, carrying a laundry hamper is still not something you are supposed to do. There's a big difference in picking up a gallon of OJ and Milk in each hand from a shelf vs. hoisting around a ladder, climbing and reaching. That uses your abs way too much, and you're not there yet, no matter how great you feel. You won't even be fully healed when your doctor releases you - full healing 3-4 months, maybe 6 months or longer.
General guideline for pain is new or intense pain (6 or higher on a scale of 0-10) should be phoned in to your doctor's office. They'll know the right questions to ask to determine whether you should go in to be checked. Meanwhile, rest, recline, take some ibuprofen, and swap heat and ice packs.
Here are some resources to guide you through recovery. Go ahead and watch the first video even though you're past that so you can see the progression: Video: Weeks 1-2

Re: Vaginal Pain
Hi,
It sounds like you over did it..Pain & a wave of fatigue indicates towards that. Rest, cold packs for swelling, heat pad for pain. Stay well hydrated & rest. No lifting. I took ibrophrophen for pains. If the pain persist after rest or by the next AM, then put a call into your Dr.
Some women have had that sensation of a tampon stuck feeling & it was granulation. Since you lifted & the fatigue, it sounds more like exerting yourself too much. Do take it easy, bc you dont want a set back.

Re: Vaginal Pain
Dear friend,
If you are still in pain after serious resting, please call your doctor and describe exactly how you feel. It sounds as if your body is "rebelling" and the pain is from too much activity. Elevate your legs, try the heating pad and rest.
You deserve peace of mind so please call!
Please feel better and let us know how you are doing.

Re: Vaginal Pain
No question is too silly...so many of these terms are new because there's no reason to think about them until you have a hysterectomy ! Granulation is scar tissue that forms over unhealed areas, which can slow actual healing. More here Vaginal Cuff - Granulation. You could just be swollen from the strain.

Re: Vaginal Pain
I think its more so strain from doing too much. The lifting.. Doing too much can easily result in fatigue, swelling, aches, pains + ... Its your body giving you a warning. Ice packs & I loved my heating pad when I was in pain. Rest up!

Re: Vaginal Pain 3 weeks post hysterectomy
Sisters,
My doctor texted back and said sounds like I overdid it and to take it easy. If it goes away....great....if not call back. I've rested the majority of the day, and do feel a bit better. Have any of you been told to wear a compression? My mom.had a hernia surgey last December and got one of those compression bands that you wrap around. I wore it today for 30 minutes and was miserable. Even when I took it off it felt like I still had it on. But if I have to wear it, I definitely will. But I don't know if I'm causing damage by not wearing it or if I should wear it. Had a DaVinci total hysterectomy. Your thoughts?
