4 weeks out..TLH...upper abdominal pain..anyone else?

Hey Ladies,

Well I'm a little over 4 weeks out from TLH and was doing pretty good. 2 weeks after surgery I was awaken with the worst upper abdominal pain (right in the center under my breastbone) it felt like someone kicked me in mystomach and even hurt to breathe. Well, after a trip to the ER and back to the dr's i was told it was probally trapped gas. Well I took Gas X as instructed and it worked no more problems. Well this Tuesday (my 4 week mark) again I was waken out of my sleep with the same pain again. I walked around for an hour and half popped some gasx and took an ibuprofen. Well it calmed it down some but its still there and wont go away and at the worst points in off the pain charts. Also, this time I have cramping when I urinate and its dark yellow almost orange. My doctor took some blood yesterday so hopefully it comes back with something because I don't know how much I can take.

Anybody else with these symptoms?

Hi there. I just wanted to check in and see if you found out anything yet. I don't think this sounds normal and there has to be something causing it. Please let us know and I hope you feel better soon.

Re: 4 weeks out..TLH...upper abdominal pain..anyone else?

Hi,
I had a similar problem 6 weeks after TAH. I've had pain under my breastbone for 5 days, but it has been gradually improving. I also had heartburn. I thought I may have overdone things, as I started abdominal exercises and running. In addition, I have a history of acid reflux, so I took my heartburn medicine. I still have mild pain under my breastbone, but I am giving it some more time. The rest of my body feels fine, so it is hard to know what's going on. What did you find out?

ok well just got back from drs. The pain was from my bowels still being full with big pockets of gas. I took the colon cleanser and am feeling much better except I dont think im going to ever leave my bathroom sry if tmi. So thanx for the concerns.

Re: 4 weeks out..TLH...upper abdominal pain..anyone else?

Wow, I just read your post and I had the exact same thing happen to me at 4 weeks post-op. My pain was worse when I took a deep breath and when I would lay down. Went to my internist and he ran all sorts of tests, and my bloodwork showed an elevation in my pancreatic enzymes so he said it was some sort of mild pancreatitis. Did a chest x-ray, EKG, and ultrasound to check everything out and everything was okay, but he wants me to consult with a gastro. After reading your posts, I am thinking it is just related to having the surgery.
