Is bowel prep less likely with abdominal surgery?

I am scheduled to have a TAH with vertical incision. Given previous hx it is likely I have organs fused by adhesions. Bowel prep was never mentioned and I forgot to ask. I rang my specialist's rooms to inquire if I need one. The receptionist brought up my file and said no I don't need one and it is usually only when you have your hyster via laparoscopic surgery that they recommend it.
Is this generally how it goes - so no need for bowel prep with a large abdominal incision?

Bowel prep is 100% dependent on the surgeon. Some order them and some don't. You will find sisters who have had every surgery who have had various bowel preps and sisters who have had every surgery who required no bowel prep.
