Had a get together with friends

Lastnight I had some of my friends over for drinks and girl talk. We went from subject to subject, of course my hyster came up and we started discussing leaving ovaries and the cervix. Here's the question.... If you leave the ovaries and take the uterus and cervix where do those little eggs go?.... If you leave the ovaries and the cervix, from what I read here you might have mini periods why? Stupid questions , and not really bothering me, but it's like one of those things.

Those aren't stupid questions at all. I had my uterus and cervix removed but kept my ovaries. Every month when I ovulate, the egg is just reabsorbed in the body.

If you keep your ovaries and cervix, there is a possibility of having mini periods each month because the cervix is actually the lower portion of the uterus, not a separate organ. When the uterus is removed, there is uterine tissue attached to the cervix and with ovaries, they cycle as normal and can cause a mini period. Some doctors will cauterized the cervix to help prevent mini periods and this works for some women. For others, it doesn't.

Hope this helps a little.

If you leave the ovaries, the eggs are just reabsorbed by your body. If you leave the cervix, there is some tissue that MAY form the lining that gets sloughed off each month in a period. I have my ovaries but don't have a cervix. Some gals have their cervix left in, they may have miniperiods or may not. Most seem to report that if they do happen, they are pretty light, and might not require even so much as a panty liner. The cervix is simply the bottom portion of the uterus, I don't really consider it to be a separate organ. I don't miss mine one bit! Talk over the options with your doctor.

Thanks Deb, and GFae I really never gave it much thought ,but when we started talking about it lastnight it seemed like one of those UM... questions. I will have the cervix removed because of a few questionable paps but the ovaries stay, as long as they look healthy!!! Isn't it funny how we can come up with the most bizzare thoughts... thanks again.

Hi Debbie,

That is AWESOME that you asked! I have been wondering where the heck those eggs go when the ute and cervix has been removed. I just recently came across this site (thank God) and have not had the chance to ask ... glad you did!!!

GFae - Thanks for clearing this up! : )
