Just went through it.......
I had my TVH on Tues. Oct 16 and didn't find this site until the night before, wish I had looked sooner. If I could give any advise it would be to get plenty of excercise before your surgery date I walked every night with a friend from work not a fast paced walk but just a casual walk though the neighborhood about 2 to 3 miles 4 or 5 nights a week. I was in such bad shape when I started about a month and a half ago you see I also have Multiple Sclerosis and I swear the walking helped me with my speedy recovery. The surgery took almost 2 hours and I remember wanting to get up that night to walk they had to convince me that I had major surgery and just to rest until the next morning. About 7:00 am on Wed. the nurse came in to take the cath out and let me tell you I was hanging onto the bed rails with white knuckles, boy did I feel stupid, I didn't even know it was out and the nurse was looking at me like I was outta my mind. Geeze, I felt like an idiot. So, I got up to walk waiting for my insides to fall on the floor and what do you know nothing happened. I did use the pain meds for the first day sparingly but just know you don't get a medal for not using them. Iwanted to go hom on Wed afternoon but the DR wanted me to stay one more day just to be sure so I was released on Thurs. morn. As of today I really don't feel like I even had surgery except for those pesky little gas bubbles that keep popping up...lol. I guess my main reason for posting this is to let you know you will be scared because of the unknown but know that you will come out feeling like a new person. To all of my sisters out there know that I will pray for all to have a speedy recovery as I did.
