Alcohol- How soon after surgery?

Hi All,
Just wondering how soon after surgery did you have a glass of wine or beer? I am 3 weeks post op and would love a glass or two. I'm not a huge drinker, a bottle of wine can usually last in my fridge for months lol I only have the occasional glass or two. I'm not looking to her drunk I just feel like a glass with dinner. I am not on pain killers and haven't been for 2 weeks, my concern is annoying my stomach, bowel, bladder or kidneys if they are still out of sorts and in shock.

Ideas and experiences would be great thanks.

If you aren't on narcotics, I think a glass or two would be fine!

I had a glass at about 4 weeks and it was so delicious! I slept well that night too!

If you aren't on any painkillers then a little wine probably won't hurt you. However, to be on the safe side, I recommend that you ask your surgeon before partaking. There's still a lot of internal healing going on and things that we may not be aware of. I am not a drinker so this is not something I thought to ask my surgeon about, but I am sure many others have wondered this same thing. While many of us here have lots of experience with surgery and recovering, I still recommend that your surgeon have the final word on the alcohol issue in terms of expert opinion.

Hospital guidance was 24 hours after surgery... I didn't fancy wine for a while though. I wasn't on narcs it was just that my blood count was low and alcohol just wouldn't have been very nice!
I had my first glass of red around 2.5 weeks and it went straight to my head!! After that I had a glass now and again but I watered it down with sparkling water. I really was a lightweight for about 8 weeks so really I think it's about having what you feel in the mood for.
I'm now back on my usual 3 bottles a night .... just kidding ;-)
