Adenomyosis / Confused

My hysterectomy path report says I had adenomyosis. Never knew. How is this possible if I never had any of the symptoms associated with this? It sounds painful with heavy bleeding/clots . I never had bad periods and the past 5 years I rarely had periods at all. In all honesty the adenomyosis is a non issue now with my uterus removed, but the path report had me scratching my head? The hyperplasia atypia was also showing improvement with the IUD inserted 8 weeks ago. However i still think I made the right choice to have the surgery even though everything can't back normal. I think I would've needed one at some point anyway.

Any ideas?

Re: Adenomyosis/Confused

Hello there

In a case such as yours, there were a few things going on that probably 'masked' anything else that might have been going on. Especially as you had an IUD placed and it seems/appeared to have been working well for a stretch.

The only way I can explain it is in my case, things became gradually worse with the cramps/heavy bleeding/clots. I'd have cramps even when I wasn't on my period or even close to PMS. I even tried a myomectomy and an IUD. Both were unsuccessful.

Overtime, that organ simply gets one massive workout and it starts to deteriorate in some pretty strange ways.

I hope that continue on a wonderful path of healing! *hugs*

Re: Adenomyosis/Confused

My understanding is that sometimes you can have a mild case and symptoms do not present themselves. I had mostly bulk type issues present themselves and maybe blood clots in between a couple of cycles then I didn't see those again. There was no major pain that I could complain about. When my path report came in my doc was a little surprised, as was I, that there was adenomyosis.

and waving hand wildly. This was also me.

I had a fibroid which doubled in size in 4 months and acquired a bunch of roommates in that time. That's what my surgery was for. The pathology report showed "diffuse adenomyosis". Had to ask doc what it was! Since it was spread about (diffuse) within the uterine walls, and the fibroids were my issue, it wasn't detected even in the ultrasound. WebMd, MayoClinic and HealthLine all note that some women simply don't get symptoms.
As odd as it might sound, it is what it is!
