Kept Ovaries and 5 days post op needed hormones???

I am 5 days post op and needed a low dose of estrogen. I was wondering has this happed to other women to have kept their ovaries and how long did you need to stay on the hormones? I just feel like I am not going to get back to normal. Thanks...

It isn't unusual at all for your ovaries to go into shock and not work right away. I kept my ovaries and this was the case for me. For several weeks after my surgery I suffered with hot flashes and brain fog. There may have been others, but those were the dominant ones. If the symptoms are severe enough I have heard of other drs who prescribed hormones to help women get through this time. I think the length of time needed is different for all of us though.

What were your symptoms and what did your dr say about using the hormones for a time? I have always wondered how you know for sure when you don't need them anymore. I supposed you would begin to have symptoms of too much estrogen. I'm curious how your dr decided this for you. I hope they help and get you through the next few weeks without quite so much discomfort. Let us know how you do.

Hello preciouspearl! Thank you for responding. My symptoms are brain fog, hot flashes, cold chills, nausea and insomnia. I feel absolutely horrible. I called my drs office and talked to the nurse and she then discussed all my issues with the dr and he said he wanted to put me on the estrogen 0.75 dose. He did not say for how long though. There are enough in the bottle for one month. He didn't test my levels or anything so I don't know how he would know how long or what dose I would need. I hope I feel better in a couple of weeks though.
