Re: 36 hours of clear liquids pre-op?
I had to be on liquid diet for 24 hours and did an awful bowel prep. For the most part I wasn't interested in food the day before sg.....was a bundle of nerves....Just hang in there...the waiting is almost over!! You will be fine. I found the preop to be tough but made it through and was thrilled that I hadn't eaten and for the bowel prep after. It will be over soon and you can be on your way to recovery...best wishes.

Re: 36 hours of clear liquids pre-op?
I had to do 3 days of liquid diet prior to my TAH, no other preparation.
Broth was my main meal and helped me with the dizzy spells. Also had lots of jello and water. I was allowed a drop of milk with my tea and coffee and I found that quite filling. ( you will need to check with your doctor). Also lemon iceblocks.
I was on fluids for 1.5 days after the surgery too... did not feel like eating on day 2. Managed to have a cup of tea and 1/2 a sandwich.
You will be fine. Take care

That part is positively hysterical! I can totally relate to that bit of ingenuity. During my liquid diet I joking told a friend that I wanted a cheeseburger. Not to eat... just to chew and spit out. They said I could not eat food... they didn't say anything about tasting it. Of course, I went on to have a very realistic dream where I accidentally ate a cheeseburger and a chicken breast sandwich before surgery... so maybe the tasting food thing wouldn't have worked so well for me.

Re: 36 hours of clear liquids pre-op?
After reading all the good info on this site, I chose to do the liquid diet the few days before surgery. I also started taking stool softeners five days before. It really helped with the bowel prep and enema; those were a piece of cake. I would have oatmeal for breakfast, drinkyoghurt, smoothie, ensure for lunch and soup, jello and applesauce for dinner. No carbonated drinks either, just water, juice (and coffee-couldn't give that up!) I did feel a bit weak but having liquids really helped with the bowel prep; there was no pain and I slept well overnight before surgery. Good luck!
