Adenomyosis - symptoms and hysterectomy options?

Hi, , I am 47, never had children and was diagnosed with adenomyosis a year ago based on sonogram. My dr recommended a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy (LSH), which I chose to ignore at the time. A year later, and my symptoms are getting worse...

I have some questions, and am really interested what others have to say:

1) In addition to being more bloated than ever and having irregular periods, I've also had more bowel pains and urinary tract infections (after sex) lately. Is this common for Adenomyosis? Because if it is, I will probably schedule my surgery sooner than later. I have been pretty passive about it until now but am tired of feeling blah and not fitting in my jeans!

2) is LSH best option? Why keep the cervix? Or better to go for it all?

thanks in advance !

Re: Adenomyosis - symptoms and hysterectomy options?

Hi, I'm in my 30's, also childless... anf all the things you described were symptoms of mime as well. Upon removal of both the uterus and my cervix, adenomyosis was pathology confirmed in both. I always got bladder infections after sex. Happy to say, not anymore. However, recovery is tough. Good luck to you.

Re: Adenomyosis - symptoms and hysterectomy options?

thanks -- sorry to hear your recovery was tough. Why so? Did you have a laparoscopic procedure?

You think they found adeno in your cervix as well? I guess I don't understand why my dr. is recommending keeping the cervix.

again, thanks for your help and advice

Re: Adenomyosis - symptoms and hysterectomy options?

Yep- they did find adeno within my cervix. My cervix was painful to the touch and adeno within the uterus caused extreme pressure on my cervix/bladder, etc. I had a very diseased abdomen. I have a friend who had stage 4 endo and confirm adeno (after her hyst) and kept her cervix.. a year later she had to have her cervix removed as well, do to pain and adeno within her cervix.

I understand that doctors prefer to keep the cervix if possible due to prolapse of the bladder potentially happening if removed. My surgeon had to reconstruct my bladder anyway- so, it worked out just fine.

You should ask your doctor if prolapse is why they are against taking your cervix.

Not all recovery's are as tough as mine- I had 3 surgeries last year alone for Endo. It just took a lot our of me.

Yours may not be tough at all! Many women have a fast recovery.

Good luck!
