Upcoming hysterectomy 4/25: Am I numb to emotions?

Good morning, ladies! A little background...I'm 29 and been dealing with fibroids for four years. These fibroids are not your typical fibroids either. Two years ago I had an abdominal myomectomy with excision of 35 fibroids!! After that, bleeding and symptoms subsided for close to two years. Bleeding came back with avengence. Did a husteroscopic myomectomy which failed. Here I am with an 18 week size uterus hoping and praying that my scheduled laparoscopic hysterectomy with lysis of adhesions will be a success on Tuesday. Otherwise it will be converted to an abdominal incision. My mother is devastated because I will never have children....quite frankly, I could care less. This uterus has ruined my life and I'm beyond thrilled about the surgery. I've made peace with my decision. But, I kinda feel like there is something wrong with me because I have no emotions surrounding any of this. I'm happy! I'm thrilled! I'm excited! Bring it on!

You absolutely do have feelings for this, and it's the feeling of relief and happiness that this will be all over. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to have children. And if your lady parts are unhealthy they need to go. It sounds like you have your head on straight and are ready to live your life, pain free and all. Why would there be something wrong with you for that? I applaud you! I wish you an uneventful surgery and recovery

Re: Am I numb to emotions?

There's nothing wrong with you! One doctor told me "it's ok to be ok with your decision". Best advice I've gotten so far .. it's ok to be ok!

I'm glad you're thrilled to be heading down this path. As nervous as I am about the surgery itself (this is my first surgery, I'm squeamish about medical stuff in general), I can't wait to evict these unwelcome roommates.

Good luck and all the best with your surgery!

Re: Am I numb to emotions?

If your uterus has ruined your life, why wouldn't you be happy to get rid of it? There's a lot more to *you* than your uterus - and now the rest of you will be better able to enjoy life. Not to be harsh, but your mother needs to get over it.

That's really how I've been feeling! She's so upset and I'm just kinda like whatever! Life is gonna be good! (truthfully, life hasn't been so good for a few years!) I hope in time she will get over it, and move on! I certainly am moving on....and without this beast of a uterus! Thank you for your response!

Re: Am I numb to emotions?

Once you've recovered from surgery and are feeling better, it might help to say so frequently in your mother's presence. Give her a chance to understand how much losing the fibroids and the bleeding has benefited you.
