What's inside the ovaries

Hi. I want to thank everyone who has been responding to my questions! You have all been so kind and helpful.

I was diagnosed with a 6.6cm "mildly complex" cyst that has essentially replaced the right ovary. It hasn't shrunk with BC pills so my GYN wants to remove it. Does anyone know what these type of cysts contain? I am really curious what is inside this thing!

here's what I found...

Ovarian cysts form for various reasons.

most common is a follicular cyst, a result of the growth of a follicle. this is the normal fluid-filled sac that contains an egg
Sometimes this follical overdevelops and does not release the egg, and usually they resolve on their own over a period of days or months.

some cysts can contain blood (hemorrhagic or endometrioid cysts) from injury or leakage of tiny blood vessels into the egg sac.

Sometimes, the tissues of the ovary grow abnormally to form other body tissues such as hair or teeth. (doesn't THAT sound strange!!!) Thise are called dermoid cysts.

I really cant answer this question about what it contains but I felt compelled to tell my mothers story about this exact situation. She had a cyst about the size of a grapefruit around her right ovary and she was scheduled for it to be removed but before her surgery while she was in the hospital getting prep it ruptured and she got very sick because it also ruptured the ovary and she was hemeraging. They rushed her and did what they could. They had to take the damaged ovary out and said that scar tissue from the other damaged areas would prevent her from ever having children. Well this was right after I was born and I now have two sisters that were both whoops babies so shows what they knew. She is perfectly healthy now but for several weeks she was very sick and weak from infection and other complications. I have had a small cyst rupture before but it was more of a relief after I stopped hurting from it. I don't know what it contained because that has been 23 years ago so they maynot even have known but what ever it was made her very sick. So please be very careful. Because had my mom not already been at the hospital they may not have saved her. But like I said don't let it scare you too much because she like I said is perfectly fine now and has never had a nother gyn problem. But if the dr wants to take it I would say the sooner the better.
