16 days post hysterectomy: worried I might overdo it; pulling sensation and discharge
I had Laproscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy(LAVH) and vaginal re-positioning 16 days ago. I was walking a mile within a couple of days post op. I walked almost 5 miles the first week and second week. I cleared it with my surgeon. I have been off all pain meds, including ibuprofen, since the first week, but I am aching a bit from what I assume are ovarian cysts since these are very common for me and my ovaries are still intact. I go back to work next week. My big concern right now is that since I have no real pain, that I might overdo it and not realize it until too late. I was expecting to have considerably more pain, but I only took 1 Percocet following surgery and never had the need for more. Sometimes when I have walked a bit too fast or up too many hills or stairs I have a pulling sensation higher in my abdomen. Why would that be happening and is this normal? I also have been having a lot more discharge than I had last week. I own a preschool and will return to work next week. I am a bit worried about that since I work 11 hours a day and have full responsibility for my 7 year old grandson in the evenings, including meal prep and all after school activities.

Sounds like you may be overdoing it. That also seems awfully quick to return to running a day care and lifting little ones.
As for the discharge, put a call in to your doctor.

Most people do not go back to work till 8/12weeks post op or even longer please take care of yourself you only get one chance to recover and you certainly dont want to end up with prolapse of bowel and bladder which can happen .Take care of yourself for once, love Jibby p xxx

Re: 16 days post hysterectomy: worried I might overdo it; pulling sensation and discharge
Thank you for your responses. My doctor gave me the go ahead to get back to work as long as I do not lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk. My preschoolers are all potty trained and sleep on mats. I can get down on the floor with them, but not lift them. I asked specifically about my walking and she said I can walk as much as I feel comfortable walking, but not on a treadmill since a treadmill pushes your pace. She said that walking was very good for healing and that the miles that I am walking is totally fine as long as there is no pain. She warned against any straining, but other than that she said it was fine. I understand that the crampy feeling is normal, but was wondering about the pulling feeling in my upper abdomen and the discharge that is just more than it used to be. I guess I will check in again with my gyno. She is considered the best, most experienced surgeon in the entire metro area. (large city) I wonder about the vast differences in what the advice from surgeon to surgeon are. Some are on complete bed rest for 6-8 weeks following surgery, yet others, like myself encourage mobility. Even with the same operation there are great differences in what is advised.

16 days post hysterectomy: worried I might overdo it; pulling sensation and discharge
I am 8 days post op and saw my dr yesterday. She said the pulling sensation was normal.
I would def call your obgyn regarding the discharge.
My Dr took a swab of my discharge to test for infection, you might need an antibiotic.
Good luck!

Thank you. That's helpful. My doctor doesn't do a post op check until 6 weeks. I will call them if the discharge gets any worse. I know some discharge is normal and it could be the stitches dissolving, which is supposed to happen about now. It is odd that I feel a bit worse now with cramps than I did last week.
