On-Q pain management

Sisters, I promised when I had surgery I would come back and post about my experience with the On-q pain management - Its a continous drip of lidocane (I think that is the drug) that is a thread inserted into your incision by your DR before he closes you up during surgery. When I started researching it on this site, I found a few sister who knew about it but more who did not. Let me tell you how I am trying to be the poster child for this pain management system. Let me explain, it has to be ordered for your surgery so you would need to talk to your DR about it in advance but it is a contious drip that numbs the area it is inserted into. For my TAH on 9/28 - my DR ordered a pump for 3 days. It looks like a ball of medicine about the size of a tennis ball and comes wth a lttle pouch that you wear around your neck or put in your pocket .(You have freedom to move around- not like an IV) It dispenses on its own and keep the area numb for the length of time the medicine is dispensed. I got mines on Monday and had it removed today (Thursday) the ball simply dries up and all the medicine is gone -You can remove it at home or let a nurse remove it. I have to have staples removed today so I let a nurse remove mines. Its probably why I have had such an easy post op- You will still need post op pain medicine. The way my DR explained it to me was the On-q was medicine for the outside and the morphine (or whatever drug you use after surgery ) is the medicine for the inside. Anyway, I hope to l NEVER have any other kind of surgery without it- Definitely the best thing since sliced bread. Find more info by googling "ask your surgeon dot com". Everyone I found on this site who used it before me had good things to say about it. Now, I do too. Good luck to you.
