How much pain meds?

It is 2AM and I am home for the first night post op. I had a LAVH and removed the right ovary and tube. I am in huge pain - felt much better at the hospital of course.

I am home with oxycodone that doesn't really appear to be doing very much for me. I am taking it every 4 hours and adding 2 motrin in 2 hours after taking the oxycodone. Does anyone know if I can take two oxycodones? When they took me off the morfin drip in the hospital - it was two perrocet)

I don't really want to call the dr at 2AM and am hoping someone is up and seeing this!

Re: How much pain meds?

I wouldn't take two oxycodones at the same time. That's a pretty powerful pain med. Instead of waiting to take the motrin, take it with your oxycodone. They are two different types of meds so you won't be over dosing yourself....

just my opinion....you might want to call the ER and get a medical opinion

Re: How much pain meds?

If you are in that much pain it might be worth getting checked out in the ER. Oxycodone is a pretty strong drug so it should be helping you. Just try to relax & hang in there. the first few days are hard but it does get a bit better each day. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Re: How much pain meds?

My prescription said to take 2 oxy if I needed to, to get on top of the pain. This is of course just my script but it seems pretty standard. After that make sure that you take your dose on time, every time. If you have an Ibuprofen script be sure to be 'on time' with it as well. Hope you feel better soon.

Re: How much pain meds?

My doctor allowed two OxyCodone (Percocet) and one 800 mg. pill of Ibuprofen at the same time. I know there area different dosage levels of Percocet/Ocy though, so maybe try 1.5 at the most until you can check with a Dr.

Re: How much pain meds?

My prescription was for 1-2 every 4 hours. If you bottle does not specify this check with your Dr before taking more than 1.

I hope you and your Dr can get your pain under control soon so that your healing can start.

Re: How much pain meds?

You do have to watch the dosage amounts. Taking 2 5mgs is really different than taking 2 10 mgs.
