second week of Provera

Well, this is my second week of Provera. I'm supposed to take it for 3 months. I am very irritable lately. My pharmacist said she wasn't sure if it's from the meds, because most ppl don't take it everyday for months. But i'm not sleeping well either. I started bleeding again almost a week ago I'm not happy. I'm waiting to see if this time will be a "normal" period, or if it won't stop again. If it doesn't stop, I'm considering calling the dr again and see if there is something else we can do. I'm not sure if there are alot of options at this point. She said she didn't think an abligation would work. With my already increased risk of cancer,(family history, and pre-cancerous cells) I'm not a good canidate for hormones long term. Sometimes I wanna just throw up my hands and say lets have a hysto. But i'm not sure how much that will affect my life after, and that's a permanent change. I kn im thru having children, so that's not an issue. Just really confused/disappointed.

Re: second week of Provera

Hi there,
I have been taking 10 mg of Provera twice a day, every day, for a few months now. My cycles were alternating between 25 and 45 days, and lasting from 8 to 16 days each time, and this has not changed.
The main reason I am trying Provera in this way is to attempt to suppress the sciatic pain I am having from a large pedunculated fibroid on the back wall of the uterus that is sitting on my sacral nerves, as when I was only taking 10 mg of Provera once a day for 10 days out of every cycle, I had noticed a significant reduction in my pain.
But now despite the daily, higher dose, my pain is breaking through ... and I am discussing a hysterectomy. I am 49.
My side effects (which came on within days but which have improved over time) have been significant breast bloating and water retention, worse insomnia (although I have not slept through the night in 4 years anyway because of pain), and mild hot flashes. No problem, except for the continued pain!
I had also tried the bioidentical version of progesterone, Prometrium, which was wonderful for helping me sleep but did absolutely nothing for my pain.
If it weren't for my pain and I were a candidate, I would have tried an ablation -- but I have so many other internal fibroids that have distorted the uterus, they did not think it would work. I did have a D&C 12 years ago and it gave me about 7 or 8 years of improved bleeding, then the flooding periods started again.
The only time my period would not stop at 27+ days was when I had developed a large, 6 cm ovarian cyst. While I was getting a second opinion, it ruptured on its own, so at least I was spared that surgery!
Maybe you need a different dose of Provera? My symptoms were no worse on 20 mg per day every day, as opposed to 10 mg per day on only 10 days each cycle.
I hope something in there is helpful to you! You are not alone, and we all understand your frustration.
