Pre-Op...Think I had a hot flash!
Last night I was watching TV and this horrible heat came over me...Like I was burning up from the inside out. I didn't really sweat much. It lasted 15-20 minutes. Was this a Hot Flash? I've been debating the whole "take the overies or don't" thing. I'm scheduled for DVH at the end of January. If I'm having hot flashes now, should I just have them take the overies???

Hot flashes now do not mean you should have your ovaries removed. Hot flashes can be from fluctuating hormone levels. Perhaps you are stressed bout the upcoming surgery,

Pre-Op...Think I had a hot flash!
Did I mention I'm 49? Doc recommendeds taking them, but it is my final decision.
So did I describe a hot flash in original post?

Re: Pre-Op...Think I had a hot flash!
It sounded as if it *could* be a hot flash to me but it also sounded like what happens when I've forgotten to eat for too long and my sugar crashes. The difference for me is that when I'm having a sugar crash, the heat is accompanied by shakiness. A hot flash is just plain ol' hot.
At 49, it's not unlikely that you're starting perimenopause. This usually lasts a few years before you stop having periods altogether. However, I wouldn't suggest ditching your ovaries just because you're within a few years of menopause. For one thing, you want to get as many years of hormones out of those ovaries as you can. For another thing, even after menopause the ovaries continue to produce lower levels of hormones that still protect your health in many ways, especially when it comes to your heart, bones and cognitive function.
Consider that four years *after* menopause, I was told that my ovaries needed to go because they were still producing sufficient estrogen that they might cause a recurrence of my endometrial cancer (which is why I was having a hysterectomy in the first place). If they hadn't been doing anything at all, they could have stayed.
Why is your doc recommending removing them? And no, "you're not using those anymore" is *not* an adequate reason.

Re: Pre-Op...Think I had a hot flash!
I have had a lot of problems with excessive bleeding and cramps, etc. Had the ablation procedure last year and it didn't help much. I've previously has cervical dysplasia and uterine fibroids.
He suggested removal of the ovaries as they could be the source of my issues, but told me it is my decision.

Re: Pre-Op...Think I had a hot flash!
If you have your uterus and cervix removed, you're not going to have anything left to accumulate and shed endometrial tissue, so that takes care of the bleeding, the cervical dysplasia and the uterine fibroids. It might also take care of some/most of the cramping, since one of the things that's cramping right now is your uterus.
It's not clear to me how much extra benefit you get by removing your ovaries.
