Lovenox and other questions after hysterectomy

Hi I had lavh for Adenosarcoma on Jan 7th through single port! I have pain only at incision where my hernia was also repaired. No pain lying down but massive pain if I cough. Have not been taking narcotics because I don't want the side effects. Walking outside but belly gets huge and incision painful. Lovenox for 28 days is the worst! I have no body fat and hubby giving it in thighs. Pain lasts 30 min to an hour afterwards. Horrible! Did anyone need shots that long? Any suggestions on the pain?

Re: Lovenox and other questions after hysterectomy

I also had to have lovenox shots, but only for 14 days. My hubby gave them to me in the stomach not the thigh. Sometimes they hurt and sometimes not. I couldn't figure out any reason. I know the ones I got in the hospital, on my thigh, hurt way worse than the ones at home, I hated them. I have a friend who is a nurse and she suggested rubbing the area with ice for a couple of minutes before the shot. I didn't find it made much of a difference though. We did learn DO NOT rub the area after the shot. It makes everything worse.

I'm on Lovenox for 28 days also. I'm injecting it on my sides, alternating and avoiding the same areas. (Only time in my life I'm thankful for some fat).
It definitely stings for a couple minutes and I have some bruises but beats DVT or PE.
The only tips I can pass along-
I found it less painful to inject myself and learned not to wipe any blood with the alcohol swab afterwards. Also, ensure plunger is fully depressed before removing syringe.
I would call your doctor since you've got 3 more weeks to go. Wonder if buttocks would be an option?

Re: Lovenox and other questions after hysterectomy

Had the Lovenox shots for 14 days. They definitely were painful anywhere from 1-5 minutes afterwards. Do NOT rub the injection site afterwards! OMG pain! I have plenty of belly fat but in the hospital they gave them in my upper arm. I still have a bruise from the first one and I'm almost 5 weeks post op. Don't recommend that site at all.

Lovenox and other questions after hysterectomy

Thanks everyone! I've never been a needle wimp but cannot give these to myself. Today my hubby injected slow and I followed that with a heating pad. Pain was much better. I don't understand why some people only get the shots for 2 weeks and others for 4. I'm up walking around and am wondering get if I really need them that long.
